Spiritual Plagiarism

November 25, 2013

When I teach English composition, I require students to write in class. I know that in-class writing is their own work, so in this way I become familiar with each student’s writing voice and am able to detect if they “borrow” a bit too heavily from another writer. Students are surprised to learn that their writing voice—which includes what they say as well as how they say it—is as distinctive as their speaking voice. Just as the words we speak come from our hearts, so do the words we write. They reveal who we are.

We become familiar with God’s voice in much the same way. By reading what He has written, we learn who He is and how He expresses Himself. Satan, however, tries to make himself sound like God (2 Cor. 11:14). By using God’s words in a slightly altered fashion, he comes up with convincing arguments for things that are untrue. For example, by convincing people to do things that simulate godliness, such as trusting in an outward regimen of self-discipline rather than Christ’s death for salvation (Col. 2:23), Satan has led many astray.

God went to extremes to make sure we’d recognize His voice. He not only gave us His Word, He gave us the Word made flesh—Jesus (John 1:14)—so that we will not be easily deceived or misled.

Instill within my heart, dear Lord,
A deep desire to know Your Word,
I want to learn to hear Your voice
That I may make Your will my choice. —D. DeHaan
Your Word is very pure; therefore Your servant loves it. —Psalm 119:140

And another note of interest - Seattle University - a private Jesuit Catholic University still has a very active Army ROTC unit there. It is named in honor of MajGen Patrick Brady, and he occasionally shows up to various events there.

The Seattle Univ. ‘management’ is quite proud of their association with the ROTC program, and believe that it is a tradition in honor of St. Ignatius of Loyola - founder of the Jesuits - a ‘warrior priest’.

My daughter attended Seattle Univ. on an ROTC scholarship - graduating and being commissioned December 2007. She really enjoyed the time there and the challenges, and loved meeting MGen Brady when ever he visited. As to be expected - he is quite an impressive man.

Good morning, Canteen.

Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Star, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities.
Patrick Henry, huh? Wonder who he was named after? LOL

This is going to be a post-n-run week.
I have only 2 1/2 days to get my work pile down.
And, it's time card week, which adds to it.

. . . . . . . . . .

Which means I will not be at the Canteen
hardly at all this week.
The best I can do is post-n-run each day
if I make it. If I miss your ping(s), I apologize in advance.

Wanted to check in real quick
to see how FRiends in the Midwest are making out
with the crazy weather.

. . . . . . . . . .

We're in the low 20s.
I stayed home all weekend, doing chores,
and keeping the fire going yesterday.
I understand that the nasty precipitation is headed our way
making Wednesday and Thursday...iffy.

Hope that y'all can be grateful for something
despite it all.

Stay safe and warm. And enjoy the Holiday with family & FRiends.

Please stay and hang out with the military.
Chat up the military or a family member.
No need to fret...you know I'll be back!

The FR Canteen is

Come in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea,
pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM ~ DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
