Dental insurance is dumb. (1) By the time one pays for the insurance and deductibles and you subtract the discount cash customers get you don't save very much. Very true. I’ve never had dental insurance. I go for check ups twice a year, pay a reasonable fee in cash for the visit and anything extra that is needed. I’ve never gasped at the bill.

They can only fine you if you get a refund - and I won’t.

Actually, the fine can come out of the refund, OR, if you happen to owe the IRS at any time for the same tax year as a result of underpayment, etc., the fine will be commingled and the entire amount will be due. Explained here earlier by a CPA type.
