Police officers in the city of Louisiana, Missouri used the stun gun to stop Ryan Miller after he kicked in a front door and tried to enter his house to rescue his 3-year-old stepson, Riley.
Officers on the scene felt it was too dangerous to let anybody go in. ...Miller was tased three times, then handcuffed and thrown in the back of a police car.
The boy's body was eventually found 12 to 15 feet from the front door.

The child is the father's, not the police officer's, not the government's.
This whole circumstance reminds me of a situation in a war.
Had the dad been a soldier in WWII and he had a buddy in a burning building and he tried to get him out he would be up for the Medal of Honor, dead or alive.
Had the soldiers’ commanding officer prevented the soldier from the rescue attempt, he would lose the respect of his men.
The dad did the right thing. I would have done the same thing. I would do ANYTHING for my child, and freely give my life for even a .005% chance that my child could survive.
Not acknowledging that most parents feel that way makes you look like a fool.
Plus he’ll probably get a bill from the fire dept for their ‘services’ - yikes since when can they do that since it is already a tax-payer funded service?!?!
We could play on words and conflicts in reporting all day long, such as:
“Ryan knows that the child was still breathing” could be interpreted as Ryan knew this because a witness told him. But this would be just as much conjecture as knowing the child was already dead.
But what is not in conflict is the fact that the cops stopped a father from saving his son.
“By the way, the only people who let the child die were the stepfather and the the child’s mother - they fled the house and left the child inside.”
The boy was in a front room, they had to exit by the back door. The father then attempted to enter through the front door ... only about 12 feet from his son.
“By the time police and fire arrived, the child was already dead.”

My position would be "My life is MY property, to be expended in whatever manner I choose".
Yes. His life belongs to him. If he wants to risk it in an effort, no matter how futile, to save his child that is his right.

Agreed. I have several retired LEOs and other uniformed civil servants in my family, but they all hail from a bygone era when such men treated the people that they served with respect.
Today I can't think of a single situation that can be improved by involving an armed representative of The Government. "Immediately leave the area if they arrive" is my current operating rule.
Let us role play. If your best judgement was that someone seeking to enter a burning house (raging river, rip tide, tornado, train crossing) would result in an unsuccessful rescue attempt and end with their death would you try to prevent them from attempting the entry?
Maybe you would let a stranger try but would you let a loved one risk certain death attempting to rescue another loved one?
If I was convinced a suicide mission was being attempted I would probably intervene. But then if it was my kid I would gladly die trying. My wife would thank the person stopping me.Go figure.
I would of grabbed the damn hose and kept water on him while he did. I’m a father and I would choose death with no hesitation rather than letting any of my kids die.

Sacrificing yourself for another is not suicide! Jesus himself says no greater love has he than he who lays down his life for another! He wasn’t suicidal, he was acting out of love!

Most cops are cowards, period. Simply bullies with badges and guns. In this instance which is typical under these circumstances, cops didn’t want themselves to be exposed publically as the cowards they are by a civilian willing to put his life on the line to save a child. CAN’T HAVE THAT ! Same scenario occurred and was hushed up by the Columbine Cowards, who were the Cops!. Parents tried many times to enter school to save their kids but the cops just stood around directing traffic and keeping real adults from doing the cowardly cop’s jobs! Protecting & Saving Each Other’s Lives’ & Pensions is their real motto!
Your reply is circular. Either one is free or one is not free to make the decision. How do you know he would have died? I can just as well assume the cops/fire department were concerned about a potential lawsuit. I find your logic illogical.
