Good evening, Sarge - I didn't know you were musical until I saw your post on FB yesterday or today. I share your love of music and I am a Celt.

In my late 30's, I started taking voice and sang in the Tenor section of a couple of excellent church choirs and with the Oratorio Society of Washington. Later cantored in my church for many years and still sing in the Chancel Choir.

Here's a tune that I remember from almost fifty years ago from Finbar and Eddie Furey:

"The Lonesome Boatman"

I hope you enjoy it!

America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi!

Eagles Up! Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Given the circumstance I’d assume a pan flute was somehow involved, lol.

I sang “The Valley of Strathmore”, with dulcimer accompaniment.

Earlier that afternoon, a fellow with a violin sat next to me, and I sang out with “The Fisherman’s Lament”. He began playing along with me as I sang and strummed, and a CROWD began forming around us, and I heard a few voices singing along. Generous applause followed.

I live for moments like that!

You? A Celt!? NAWWWW... I never would guess...

It all depends on the audience and the venue. The SCAdians love the traditional period pieces. The Renfaires love the pub tunes and the sing-alongs. But BOTH love the rowdy tunes!

Anything by Gaelic Storm, Great Big Sea, the Dubliners, the Chieftains, and especially Silly Wizard!

“Lonesome Boatman” is beautiful!
