SPRINGFIELD - Butterball has just announced to officials at supermarkets around the country, including Big Y World Class Markets, that there is a national shortage of their large fresh (unfrozen) turkeys for this Thanksgiving.
A mistake was made in the production of fresh Butterball brand turkeys this year and the company has cut every retailer's allotment by 50 percent, said Claire D'Amour-Daley, Big Y vice president of of corporate communications. The cut represents thousands of turkeys that would have been shipped to Big Y. The same goes for every other retailer, she said.
Butterball's corporate offices did not return calls for comment.
D'Amour-Daley said Big Y has larger fresh turkeys from other brands, frozen larger Butterball turkeys and unfrozen smaller Butterball turkeys.
This shortage involves only Butterball brand large fresh turkeys of 16 pounds or more and not frozen Butterballs of any size or smaller weight fresh Butterballs.

Sounds like an excuse to raise the price. Maybe hold off on stocking the freezer with Christmas prices.
I had goose with some friends in the late 80s”
When my mom was alive it was mandatory that everyone show up for Thanksgiving dinner. We had turkey, ham, roast duck and goose, mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing which had been baked in a turkey and stuffing which had been baked in a separate dish, homemade gravy and chicken and noodles which she prepared just for her number one grandson. It was the one time of the year when she made something for everyone.
Didn’t take my kids long to realize that I was not going to carry on the tradition after she died and we only have turkey, one kind of potatoes but all the other trimmings. Even after all these years, they always sit around and talk about the wonderful dinners their grandma used to make and I always remind them that they are certainly allowed to fix all the rest of the stuff if they want.
Scary bunch.
.
I didn’t even know Butterball raises unfrozen turkeys...
Believe it or not, most of the turkeys they raise are unfrozen.

never mind that was yesterdays thread....
Raised in Antarctica
The best thanksgiving meal I ever had was at the mess hall for the support brigade for 2nd Infantry Division. The one star commanded the replacement depot and would snatch any school trained (CIA, Le Cordon Bleu, etc.) chefs for his dining facility. You have no idea how good it was.
Kind of like if the candy companies forgot to make extra candy for Halloween.
You have no idea how good it was.”
How cool it was for you to be able to have this experience, particularly at such a time in your life. Great memory to have. The very least we could always do for our guys and gals who are serving is to make sure that they all have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner - regardless of where they are and regardless of what it takes to pull it off.
It wasn't just the traditional feast, although there was a lot of that, but also ice sculptures, wines and beer, steamship round, etc., etc.
My 14-year old daughter shot a 21-pounder on youth weekend, so we’re all set.
Bunch of socialist/communist traitors.
I had a wild turkey pecking on my patio door the other morning. Should have let her in.
...and shot the 12 point buck grazing in the woods at my fence line. (but I’m not a poacher)
When do you pick up the empty bottles? j/k.
Yeh I’ll be running down to fight for one of their Halal turkeys. No thanks.
