Despite his devotion to dinner time prayers and Christian values, "Duck Dynasty" star Willie Robertson has been axed from speaking at a benefit in Bristol, Tenn. for the faith and bible-driven organization, Family Ministries.
Why?
Wine.
The famous family announced its latest business venture last week: Duck Commander Wines. In conjunction with the winemakers of Trinchero Family Estates in Napa, the Robertsons' own line of Red, Moscato and Chardonnay is slated to hit stores next month. According to the Ministries, Duck Commander Wines goes against the organization's core values.
"Our greatest responsibility is to the young people we serve. Therefore, we feel that in light of the recent news, to continue with this event would send mixed messages to the young people who go through our Adolescent Drug and Alcohol program," Derek Bell, director of development for Family Ministries stated. "Our message must be consistent. The lives of those children may well hang in the balance. We certainly apologize to the people who have already purchased tickets, and pray they understand our position."

Thank you. You appear to be the first and only person to see the conflict here between the Robertson family and their entering the wine industry and the Family Ministries people outreaching to alcohol victims.
I have never figured this out. I’m a Baptist and I part ways with them on their hatred of wine. Most teach that drinking wine is a sin and it’s not. I figure if it was good enough for Jesus then it is good. Why do they teach that it is wrong when it’s not? Is this something that is specific to the South?
I’m pretty certain they attend Church of Christ which uses wine for Communion.
They better break ties with Jesus then. After all, He made wine for a Jewish wedding.

How sad, that some believe they must earn their way into God’s acceptance, that they are even capable of behavior so perfect, compounded in the very act of believing such nonsense, failing to acknowledge that the least of sins condemns them as much as does the greatest.
The worst of their failings, sadly, is their implicit rejection of the unspeakable gift of redemption and forgiveness available to them through faith in Jesus, the Christ and His sacrificial work of redemption.

I have never seen any prohibition against drinking alcoholic beverages anywhere in the Bible. However, it does warn us several times about drunkenness.
His choice. Let the market work. Someone will pick up on the Duck Dynasty guys.

Has the church cancelled their communion wine?
As a Baptist, I fully acknowledge the least of sins condemns. That is not why Baptists abstain from drinking or dancing, as they are made fun of here. It is a recognition that after salvation, we are to strive to become more Christlike. If a person cannot drink without it becoming sinful behavior, then they should abstain from drinking. If a person cannot dance without it leading to impure thoughts or behavior, it is better to abstain.
Now, unfortunately, as with all religions there are those that are extreme, holier than thou.
But, the foundation of their belief is sound.
I am of a denomination that doesn't allow alcohol. I don't necessarily agree, but I understand it in the 'don't make your brother stumble' sense. However, if the church sold tickets advertising the Duck Dynasty folks and then voluntarily changed the line-up, they'd better be offering a full refund to anyone who desires. This is different from 'card subject to change.' This is bait and switch.
So what if they have their own high standards.....it's their standards and they are trying to be consistent with the message of not drinking, drugs, etc.
We were just in Bristol about a month ago....a small Appalachian town in East Tennessee with a proud heritage.
And yes, there are many Baptist churches throughout Appalachia.
Baptists are strongly anti-alcohol and always have been.
So what.
I was brought up in a loving Baptist family .....Baptists are, in general, loving, caring folks.
Many of you should be ashamed at the words you've thrown around today.....when you have no more insight to this organization or how it helps their community.
This area in East Tennessee is not thriving anymore and people are desperate, poor and struggling.
Willie Robertson will do just fine with his wines, I'm sure.....but he has so much money, already, I'm a tad sad that he thought he needed more from this wine business.
I believe the whole premise of this church organization is alcohol hurts families and they see this everyday!
I am a big fan of the Robertsons....I doubt I've missed an episode....and have read Phil's book and Willie's.
It's sad it had to come to this.
That's unfortunate.
I enjoy watching small business turn into big business.
He might even employ a few more victims of the Baraqqi Depression.
In the South most Evangelical churches serve grape juice....not wine.
