A condemned child killer who has abandoned his remaining appeals asked Monday for the chance to donate his organs to his ailing mother and sister either before or after his execution this week.
The request by Ronald Phillips to donate a kidney and his heart is not a delay tactic, but rather an attempt to make a final gesture for good, according to his public defender.
"It is our sincere hope that the state of Ohio will do the right thing to ensure that as many people as possible will benefit from the gift of life that Ron is so generously willing to bestow as his own life approaches its end," attorney Lisa Lagos said in an interview.

Cool way to go: Just harvest his organs till he craps out.
Ask China. They do it all the time.
On the fence. Help me out people.
All organs are harvested before you're dead. They just don't want you to know that.
I see a very bad horror franchise coming out of this...
I’ll help you out!
I say we harvest any and all usable parts from ALL Death Row inmates; even while still living, i.e. a lung, a kidney, an eyeball, new hair plugs for Joe Biden, etc.
With or without anesthesia, your call.
Of course, you’ll need to buy a ticket when you’re a baby as they keep these POSs ALIVE for 20+ years AFTER THE CRIME and ON OUR DIME!
Save The Animals! Test new chemicals, drugs and cosmetics on them too, while you’re at it. *SMIRK*
You’re Welcome! :)
Organs, hell. I wouldn’t take a piano from this guy.
Just put em on a table with the necessary tubes and equipment to keep them alive, and harvest away...'till there's nothing useful left.
Then pull the plug.
We can never allow the precedent of harvesting organs from the condemned.
There are frighteningly few steps between allowing one man to do the right thing, expecting all condemned to donate, to requiring them to donate, to a lowered threshold to convict, because after all even if we're not certain he's guilty so many others will live because of his organs, (and besides, the state makes a bundle on kidneys and livers)...
On the fence. Help me out people

Pay-per-view.
Do you really want the likes of a Eric Holder or a Valerie Jarrett, with your ACA records in one tentacle and a list of loyal party members who need organs in another tentacle and your NSA records in yet another tentacle deciding who will be accused of a capital crime this week?
Hammond or Wurlitzer?
Anything else... iffy...
not true...you read too many tabloids.
What, are you like Hamlet, reluctant to kill Claudius at his prayers, lest he go to heaven?
No, I want it to be Newt Gingrich or Pat Buchannon.
How long will that last? Are you familiar with why our Constitution is written to limit government power?
Larry Niven explores this at length in his "Known Space" series of stories written in the '70s. This Wikipedia article explains it at length:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organlegging
The crime of organlegging developes as a response to the Organ Bank Problem, a concept featured prominently in the early Known Space stories, particularly those set in the 21st and 22nd century. The Organ Bank Problem is a central theme in the novel A Gift from Earth, as well as the Gil Hamilton detective stories.
In Niven's universe, it was possible to transplant nearly any organ in the body (and prevent rejection) by the mid 21st century. Since any organ could now be replaced, in theory one could use the organ banks to extend life indefinitely. To maintain communal organ banks, one needs donors (i.e. dead people). When the death rate is reduced (via the organ banks), the number of donors decreases. Thus, the supply of organs would continually reduce.
On Earth, the problem led to a repressive society almost unrecognizable by today's standards. Since the average citizens wished to extend their lives, the world government sought to increase the supply by using condemned criminals to supply the organ banks. When this failed to meet the demand, citizens would vote for the death penalty for more and more trivial crimes. First violent crimes, then theft, tax evasion, false advertising, and even traffic violations became punishable by the organ banks. This failed to solve the problem, as once the death penalty was passed for a crime, people stopped committing it. This resulted in nearly every crime meriting the death penalty. Further attempts to alleviate the problem by declaring certain groups of cryogenically frozen people to be dead in law (the so-called "Freezer Bills") and harvesting their organs also proved to be unsuccessful. The freezer vaults represented a finite supply and therefore were eventually exhausted.
It is not until the mid-24th century that alloplasty, improved prosthetics, and most importantly, the ability to grow the needed organs by manipulating one's own DNA, ultimately made the organ banks obsolete.
Wasn’t there some cheesy 80’s or 90’s horror movie where the guy gets a transplant of a murderers amputated arm and can’t control its murdering rampage?
My son-in-law died about 5 years ago at age 33. My daughter was pressured at the hospital to donate his organs, I say “pressured” because they needed an immediate decision, so she agreed.
She had to have a closed casket funeral after that, which she did not want. They took the skin from his face, which she did not know in advance that they would do.
