Noonan: 'I'm Gonna Be the Republican Nominee' [McConnell]
WSJ.com ^ | 11/07/2013 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 11/08/2013 6:35:23 AM PST by GIdget2004

The tea party, he says, consists of "people who are angry and upset at government—and I agree with them." But "I think, honestly, many of them have been misled. . . . They've been told the reason we can't get to better outcomes than we've gotten is not because the Democrats control the Senate and the White House but because Republicans have been insufficiently feisty. Well, that's just not true, and I think that the folks that I have difficulty with are the leaders of some of these groups who basically mislead them for profit. . . . They raise money . . . take their cut and spend it" on political action that hurts Republicans.

He refers to the Senate Conservatives Fund. "That's the one I'm prepared to be specific about." The fund "has elected more Democrats than the Democratic Senatorial Committee over the last three cycles." The group is targeting Mr. McConnell with ads slamming his leadership during the shutdown. "Right now they're on the air in obvious coordination with Harry Reid's super PAC—Harry Reid's!—in the same markets, at roughly the same amount, at the same time."

But says he isn't worried about his own race: "I don't wanna be overly cocky, but I'm gonna be the Republican nominee next year."

The reason the Republican lost in Virginia was because an Obama bundler financed the Liberetarian candidate who took votes from the Republican. I wonder how much Democrat money will be behind McConnell’s opponent in the primary?

McConnell is guilty of TREASON. And I think the appropriate penalties should apply.

“I’m no fan of McConnell but he is only the minority leader in the senate and has about as much power as the queen of england. His voting record is very conservative though.”

__________________________________________________

At the very least, I don’t mind McConnell in the Senate as far as his voting record is concerned. Its his leadership that is the problem. He has proven completely incompetent dealing with the dems and the pres. He should not be in any form of leadership with the reublicans in the Senate.

The GOP establishment and the ‘traditions’ of the Senate promote the additude of “its my turn to lead or be the nominee”. What we have seen on both sides of the isle, is that senority has absolutely nothing to do with good leadership.

Having written the above, I still think it is time to primary McConnell out next spring.

I think Noonan (who asked good questions, btw) got the perfect quotes to sum up the problem:

But [McConnell said] "a lot of Democrats would have to start to defect [on Obamacare], in a big way, to force onto a reluctant president massive changes." And "I wouldn't hold my breath on that. I think what [Democrats] will do is sort of pick around the edges and try to put some distance between themselves and the implementation."

Is Mr. MConnell going to them and saying, "Guys, it would be very helpful to the country if you would begin to defect"?

No. "I'm waiting for them to come to us, because that's when you know you'll have real leverage."

In other words, McConnell plans on doing nothing but fantasizing that somehow his leadership work will all be done for him, magically.

McConnell's comment is inappropriate. Most candidates ask for a vote -- they don't brag that they will get the vote. But that's what Mitch is doing. Yes, it's like Mitch knows that the fix is in, that he will get elected and that he's taunting his opposition with what will happen.

Excellent point. If this happens, then it will be clear that the primary system is so rigged in favor of Liberal Democrats that we can officially cross 'the ballot box' off the list of remedies.

Seeing as how a sitting Senator has a 95% chance of re-election, I don’t doubt what he says.

No dice. The GOP had the house, senate, White house and a working majority in the Supreme Court. And they gave us the NSA, Patriot act, TSA, Prescription Drug, a pussified approach to war, 4 dollar gasoline in the spring of ‘08. and an explosion of government spending.

So he cannot claim that all our problems now are that the same GOP leaders do not currently control the levers of power.

McConnell has a point. The tea party cannot run birthers or we will lose every single time and destroy any chances at taking back the party.

Before the shutdown the Senate Conservatives Funds did put out some false information. I don’t know much about that group, but I will certainly check into it.

We have a lot of people ranting and raving about the fact that the GOP-e hasn’t tried to impeach Obama. Well, that just ain’t gonna work. The trial takes place in the Senate. Obama would never be convicted by a Democrat-controlled Senate.

What good has it done for Boehner & the House to vote 40+ times to repeal Obamacare? None, zip, zero, nada.

I can’t stand the GOP-e either. They’re clueless when it comes to playing hardball, but I also can’t stand the blind ignorance of mobs. I will not be a party to group-think.

I will choose the candidates I support. I will support them financially. I will not be led around by the nose banging the primary drums against any candidate who has a solid, conservative voting record.

If this guy gets the warm wet kiss of the RNC, it will be crystal clear the party has become nothing but a cruel joke to anyone who ever supported it.

Yep, that’s the hard cold truth isn’t it.

What did they do with the power we gave them?

Diddly squat!

I don't give a crap how feisty republicans are! What pisses me off is that they are NOT committed to smaller governemnt, states rights and balanced budgeting.

“Didn’t McConnell get his cut of a couple billion from his last surrender to Obama and Reid?”

Precisely. Projection on Mcconnell’s part. A longstanding Democrat trick. Accuse the other guy of precisely that which you yourself are doing to divert the attention from yourself.

The Turtle will be retired one way or another. It is easier to replace a bad DemoncRAT than an incumbent Repuglickin. If he wins the primary don’t. vote or vote for the *gasp* DemoncRAT. One way he must be retired for his cowardly behavior and sell out results. He is a DemoncRAT at heart, hates conservatives and is therefore the enemy.
