Eleven of the states 64 counties placed a measure on their Election Day ballots for voters to decide whether to pursue secession.
In six counties, the measure passed by mostly wide margins, the The Denver Post reported.
The push is unlikely to succeed. In order for the new state to be created, the Colorado electorate or legislature would have to approve and so would the U.S. Congress.

They can secede anytime they like. F DC.
This is an interesting development. There have been remarks about either having conservatives state succeed or perhaps expelling liberal states. Most have been in jest, but a few serious. There’s no doubt that the political factions have grown inreasingly apart, mostly due to the left using government, schools, and the media to force-feed their policies down everyone else’s throat.
I was impressed that the big income tax increase got smashed statewide. There is hope...
Note that I never used the terms “red state” or “blue state” in my posting.
; )
ping!
This is not just a stunt. If these 6 counties seceed, it demonstrates that there will be pockets of resistance in the event of a national ‘emergency’ resulting in martial law.
In the event of SHTF, residents would have a fighting chance to retain some of their liberties.
If they do succeed it will get awful crowded fast.
I was hoping for a map. I know here in western South Dakota a lot of us would like to get rid of the eastern part of the state.
Not only was it smashed, it spent over $10,000,000 to try to pass. I don’t know what the anti-tax side spent, but I’d guess less than a million.
for the secession ping list
I’d worry about the rest of the state which should not be abandoned to the left, but it would be nice to bank 2 Senators.
Seems like a big longshot though.
Note to everyone on this thread, they are exploring seceding from Colorado (to form a new state) not from the USA.
Another alternative is for these Colorado counties to become part of a neighboring state. No federal permission required, only a shifting of state boundaries and permission of the nearby state to join them.
I do not believe that Virginia had a say when West Virginia was made up out of whole cloth.
You mean there might actually be hope for us here in downstate Illinois, too? We could be Illinois and that taxdollar-sinkhole up north on Lake Michigan could become the Kingdom of Chicago! I like it!
West River and East River, then only one Dakota
“There have been remarks about either having conservatives state succeed or perhaps expelling liberal states.”
Oh, I’m serious.
Ping for later
Me too. We could dig out the old tollbooths and turn ‘em into guard houses so they couldn’t sneak out...
