Experts say nuclear power needed to slow warming
Associated Press By KEVIN BEGOS 1 hour ago
PITTSBURGH (AP) Some of the world's top climate scientists say wind and solar energy won't be enough to head off extreme global warming, and they're asking environmentalists to support the development of safer nuclear power as one way to cut fossil fuel pollution.
Four scientists who have played a key role in alerting the public to the dangers of climate change sent letters Sunday to leading environmental groups and politicians around the world. The letter, an advance copy of which was given to The Associated Press, urges a crucial discussion on the role of nuclear power in fighting climate change.
Environmentalists agree that global warming is a threat to ecosystems and humans, but many oppose nuclear power and believe that new forms of renewable energy will be able to power the world within the next few decades.
That isn't realistic, the letter said.

There hadn’t been any warming in 15 years. How slow does it need to be?
LOL!
Anyone who even speaks the word warming or the words climate change instantly tosses their credibility into the crapper forever.
They hate nuclear power ... They love nuclear power ...
They hate nuclear power ... They love nuclear power ...
They hate nuclear power ... They love nuclear power ...
and so it goes ...
All you have to do is repeal daylight savings time. What with the sun being out that extra hour or so.
Hint....the Sun's magnetic field is declining......expected to produce no sunspots by 2016.....last time this happened there was a mini ice age from 1350 to 1750.
Silly 'ex-spurts' shoulda stopped there.
Considering all the advantages of LFTR's, especially with a meltdown-proof design, cheap source of fuel, and very little radioactive waste, if we adopt LFTR technology and build maybe 100-200 "cookie cutter" 1,000 MW power plants, we could even eliminate a lot of coal-fired power plants, too.
Amen to post 9
Thorium appears to be the viable alternative to lead the next electricity revolution.
Next thing, all these Gaea lovers will be saying we need to set off a bunch of nukes to foster a nuclear winter to fight glo-bull warming...
There should be a high school graduation speech this year that goes something like...
You children are the very first generation that from kindergarden on has been immersed in Global Warming. Every subject you have studied, from English to Science, to Social Studies, to History, to math has found some way to incorporate the dangers of global warming into the lesson plan, and this has been skillfully done regardless of how little global warming has to do with the immediate subject matter. Every nature show you have watched always has the last 10 minutes dedicated to explaining how all of the awesome scenery and the cute critters you have enjoyed watching for the last hour are all facing imminent extinction because of global warming.
Your generation has been totally immersed since you could barely speak and walk in global warming, yet you do not know that the magnitude of the amount of information unknown about the climate is itself unknown. You have heard about global warming your entire lives, yet the earth has not heated up a single 10th of a degree during your entire life times, and other than making poor excuses such as the heat is hiding in the oceans, the global warming scientists don’t know why.
You have been lied to your entire lives, and the people who knew you were being lied to were pilloried and demonized for daring to speak the truth. I suggest you discover the meaning of the word propaganda, and learn the ways the powers that be can manipulate entire populations, and learn the reasons why, and who profits from the spread of misinformation. Perhaps you can use this as a launching point to begin to question what other “accepted truths”, aren’t quite what they seem...always follow the money.
This one I disagree with. Climate change is real but only in so much that it is a cyclical event not caused by humans. We humans of today are actually living between ice ages; good time to be alive. In the not too distant future, not so much. The earth has a 100,000 year "wobble" that I never see taken into account from the alarmists. Add to that our solar system is bouncing up and down along the Milky Way's plain (a more or less recent revelation) so who knows what extra radiation our dinky little home gets bathed in (or not depending on locale). The Sun has been acting weird and not exhibiting what we perceive to be the normal amount of "sun spots" (unless I am mistaken, its been a while since I have kept track of that).
Bottom line, the outside influences on our climate far, far outweigh anything we humans could do short of creating a nuclear winter (and even then, I am skeptical we can even do that)
That reminds me, I have to go to Wal mart and return my clock cause today is the day you take your clocks back.
I guess this drooler hasn’t read his emails... it is now “NEW MINI ICE AGE”. What we need mister nazi climate whore... ARE MORE COAL BURNING POWER GENERATION PLANTS!
Note that many other countries, including the UK, India, China and Brazil are already exploring thorium reactors in a serious way - the US risks being left behind on this one.
Another Obama disaster - what a legacy
If they ever have to give up climate change, they'll just find another vehicle.
Captain Obvious wins again!
