After a government semi-shutdown, the disastrous rollout of HealthCare.gov and the looming budget crisis coming again in January, youd think the second-ranking Democrat in the Senate would reserve his limited time and resources to focus on fixing these critical issues the federal government has already messed up.
Youd be wrong.
Senator Richard Durbin, the second most powerful man in the Senate, will hold a special hearing this week on state self-defense laws and the death of Trayvon Martin. (PJ Media has extensively covered the Trayvon Martin incident. See, Justice for Trayvon, Race Hustler Style, or Bill Whittles fantastic revelation about Purple Drank and what the media have never reported.)
Dick Durbin represents Chicago, which the FBI reported in September surpassed New York City as the murder capital of the United States, with 500 murders in 2012.

Since St. Skittles ran up and sucker punched GZ, and then straddled him once he was down — I’d say GZ never had a chance to decide whether of not to stand his ground.
Durbin is a national embarrassment. No, it is worse, he is an international embarrassment.
“Dick Durbins Senate Gun Trial to Feature Ghost of Trayvon Martin”
Well, it is halloween.....
Justice was served. Note to thugs: Some of us are armed.
My NH Congresswoman says “she supports my 2A rights”, but then qualifies it by saying we must have a “healthy debate” about “safety”.
Here is my response to her note to me.
In response to your email to me, please consider the following.

Your workplace in D.C. is protected by heavily armed guards wearing bullet-proof armor with communications links that could bring armored vehicles to bear virtually in seconds. As we saw recently, even the Park Rangers are heavily armed and armored.
Meanwhile, the rest of us, including those of us in the schools, must work in “gun-free” zones, where we are sitting ducks for any lunatic, terrorist, or deranged grudge-bearer.
As law-abiding citizens, we obey the laws and do not carry our arms where they are forbidden; not to work, nor into school buildings nor other public edifices.
If you want to have a “healthy debate”, let’s start with the fact that those of us who are not members of the ruling elite cannot afford professional SWAT teams for protection, as is provided for you and your fellow travelers in DC, at our expense, mind you. The rich people in Hollywood and Wall St. have their own personal protection forces who are allowed to travel armed without any obstruction.
However, we common folk can afford a few hundred dollars for a concealable sidearm. For home defense against more than one attacker, we can purchase semi-auto rifles with high capacity magazines. We still don’t have the body armor and the training of a SWAT team, but it’s better than being a sitting duck with no means to defend ourselves.
Concealable weapons are useless if we are required by law or by our employers to leave them home, or if we are forbidden to take them with us when entering a public building, especially public buildings which have been favorite targets, because they are “soft”, being undefended either by professionals or citizens.
If just one person were armed inside the Newtown Sandyhook School, or the theater in Aurora, CO, or any of the other myriad soft targets chosen by these lunatics, the outcome may have been different. If there were two or more armed citizens, the outcome most certainly would have been different.

If you want to rid our streets of “military-style assault weapons”, let’s start with the police. At least the people’s “military-style assault weapons” are only semi-automatic. The “military-style assault weapons” borne by the myriad police agencies and alphabet-soup government entities are fully automatic. They also have high-powered sniper rifles, armored vehicles, body armor, and other “military-style assault” paraphernalia that are unavailable to us commoners.
> As our nation continues to debate potential changes to our gun laws,
Why do you want to make it even more difficult for law-abiding people to defend themselves?
At the very least, we should be able to claim equal protection under the law, so that we could be equipped to fend off armed criminals, who, by definition, do not obey the law and carry firearms with impunity. We should also have equal protection under the law to avail ourselves of the kind of protection you and the ruling elite enjoy so much.

While you enjoy armed protection in your D.C. office building and on the floor of the Congress, our children and their teachers are favorite targets of the various violent criminals, because they are such soft targets, without any armed protection whatsoever. Criminals can enter these buildings with impunity and slaughter at will without one whit of concern that they might encounter any return fire before the police arrive, tens of minutes later.
We already have thousands of laws and regulations concerning guns. More laws, stronger laws, import bans, manufacturing limits, NONE of these things will inhibit one iota the determined criminal, terrorist, or lunatic from wreaking havoc on soft targets.
Albert Einstein said that the definition of insanity is to repeat a process and expect different results. Unless you are insane by Einstein’s definition, you should know that more laws, more regulations, more restrictions, etc, will not have any effect on those with criminal intent.

“Gun violence” is a silly oxymoron fabricated by the enemies of the people’s right to defend themselves against armed miscreants. It makes no more sense than “knife violence” or baseball bat violence” or “rope violence” or “automobile violence” or “drug and alcohol violence”. Inanimate objects cannot commit violence by themselves.
Why don’t we address the real problem, which is CRIMINAL violence? Why do people become violent? This is a MUCH harder problem to solve, especially since it’s very likely to foster answers that the typical “liberal” statist mind would rather not consider.
I challenge you to respond to me using reason and logic, not emotion and the party line talking points and statist vernacular we have become so accustomed to hearing.
Our only hope to avoid totalitarian enslavement is that the people would wake up and vote for those who understand the original intent and meaning of the Constitution. I have friends in the Slavic community who escaped Soviet oppression, and they are shocked at the current trajectory of our nation, politically, economically, culturally, and morally.
While you may not be a fan of C.S. Lewis, allow me to leave you with a quote that sums my feelings on big-government, totalitarian statism, whether it be of the collectivist or corporatist variety.
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
Still think they might come out with a TM signature series hoodie with built in pockets for ballistic plates. Should sell well in chi-town.
Maybe he can have Ryan Julison testify about the PR campaign he created, the backdated photos, and how he was hired by Martin family attorney Crump.
And don’t forget NAACP, Sharpton, Jackson, “Dream Defenders” fake astroturf group, and the Black Panthers campaign of intimidation and threats which resulted in the firing of the Chief of Police, demotion of detectives, and eventually the arrest and charging of Zimmerman.
LOL! That’s retardet sir. They’s only seeking justus.
Excellent!
NEVER... see tagline.
What power does the US Senate have regarding STATE criminal and civil laws? Once his home state is no longer Murder, Inc., he can patronize the rest of us. Until then, he needs to STFU.
Chicago has less than half the people of New York.
If New York goes totally liberal their murder rate will go up... New York's low crime rate is a residual of the 'Giuliani effect'. Giuliani governed with these types of thoughts: "It's about time law enforcement got as organized as organized crime."
That's effective no-nonsense stuff...
bttt
Wonder if Durbin gets mail.
ANNOUNCER: The story you have just seen is based on a true event. At the battle of Cerro Gordo in 1847, the Illinois Volunteer Infantry captured the artificial leg of Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana, while the General and his men feasted on a lunch of roasted chicken. Unfortunately, Santa Ana's leg still resides in an Illinois museum. If you would like to join the movement to return the leg to the Mexican people, write Illinois Senator Richard J. Durbin. Thank you, and good night.
