Firm to female staffers: Learn hard words
New York Post ^ | October 25, 2013 | Natalie O'Neill

Smart women don’t show cleavage — or at least that’s what one high-powered Manhattan law firm is telling its female employees.

The legal firm Clifford Chance sent female associates a bizarre memo advising them to stop giggling, squirming and showing cleavage while speaking in public, irking female employees who called the tips sexist, the legal news website Abovethelaw.com reports.

At youth Mass, the kids get up to do readings.

I’m going to say it.

They read from the Bible. Three readings.

There is a cheat sheet book in every Church/Parish, published yearly to assist with inflection and pronunciation, to be read through and practiced beforehand.

The girls almost invariably get up and stumble through it and it is THE most grating thing, and I am reminded to write to the pastor about it. It is God’s Word and the girls find it acceptable, as do the parents and everyone else, that the girls are mutilating it. They are teens, not little kids, and they are volunteers.

The boys, ah, no.

Boys have a lot of faults, as do girls, unique to their gender. But doing such things in the correct manner is unique to boys. Do they have a predisposition to being publically professional?

And don’t get me started on the immodest outfits.

Though, I gotta say, Men, puleeze, we do NOT WANT to see your toes. Take the sandals and put them into the trash for the sanitation department to put them where they belong. Ditto shorts in the wrong setting. I am still scandalized that Obama plays golf in shorts. Were we ever subjected to the sight of Reagan’s legs?

He is the president. Could he just dress in a dignified way for the duration?

By the time she figures anything out she is going to look like a broke down, tatted up, Daytona stripper.

Heh. Too late: She already has 19 tats.

“I tell my clients no cleavage and no spike heels in court”

I refuse to dress like a man while in court. I NEVER wear pants. I never show any inappropriate skin but I do wear STILETTOS. That’s right people, stilettos. My “uniform” for court is a fashionable jacket, pencil skirt cut right at the knee, panty hose (my younger counterparts refuse to wear them), and a classic close toe “spike heel”(think classic Jacqueline Kennedy). I have never left the courthouse without someone (usually men) stopping me and complementing my attire. Smart women do not have to dress like a tart to get attention (does anyone say “tart” any more?)

As for my clients, they usually follow my lead with conservative attire after seeing what I wear in the office, but I do feel your pain. Unfortunately, more often then not, it is the female attorney whose attire is sexually inappropriate. They get away with it all the time. So sad.

Think of a male standing in front of a urinal, legs apart and hands draped down in
front of him. In other words when in front of an audience don’t assume that pose.

The other word that is overused is “amazing.”

Don’t forget “AWESOME!”

The newest perversion I’ve noticed is starting a sentence with “so”.

YES!

It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. It screams, "look at me! I'm so hip!"

You have an excellent sense of style. Sad that many of today’s “professional” women don’t dress like this any more, especially with their no-panty hose look. Kudos to you.

That doesn't match my experience! ;-)

The one that gets me is, “basically”. People have no idea what it means.
For example, “Basically, what we’re doing here is building a house”. No, what you’re EXACTLY doing here is building a house. Grrr ....

I am a senior executive and I occasionally use “dude” in formal settings. It’s done with love and respect, but the whole purpose of it is to make the person I’m speaking to — along with anyone else who hears it — realize he’s an idiot. I only use it when it is well-deserved. LOL.

I wear heels, dress and jacket with three quarter sleeves. I never wear open toe, open heel or those huge heels. I told my client not to wear those prostitute heels but she did.
