A group of hikers high-fived after one of them intentionally pushed over a large rock, which is part of the "goblins" or "hoodoos" formation, and is nearly 200 million years old.
The men filmed one of their buddies referred to as "Glenn" pushing the giant rock from behind (video below).
According to The Salt Lake Tribune YouTube page, "Three men, tagged as Dave Hall, Glenn Taylor and Dylan Taylor, push over large rock boulders in Goblin Valley, Utah in this video posted to Hall's Facebook page."
After the rock comes tumbling down, the men celebrate their accomplishment in Goblin Valley State Park in Green River, Utah.
"We have now modified Goblin Valley," says the man filming. "A new Goblin Valley exists with, uh, this boulder down here on the bottom. Muscles here pushed it off."
At one point the cameraman states, "That's crazy, it was just held up by this little piece of dirt."
Now, the three men may be facing felony charges and could end up high-fiving in jail.
"It is not only wrong, but there will be consequences," Utah State Parks spokesman Eugene Swalberg told The Salt Lake Tribune. "This is highly, highly inappropriate. This is not what you do at state parks. Its disturbing and upsetting."

a year of smashing big rocks into little ones works for me. Yep, time to introduce them to the "joys of bustin' rocks" as Clayton Williams once said.

Unlike most FR'ers, I guess I'm not a wacko environmentalist. They knocked over an unassuming, plain-looking rock sitting at ground level. We used to have fun pushing and knocking over big rocks when I was a kid on the trails of Pennsylvania too. It didn't take much effort for them to push it over, and if people are playing on them as they are in the below picture regularly, this is probably not the first one that got knocked around. If there are signs up somewhere saying it's illegal to touch the rocks, then maybe they're guilty of something, but this is far from a crime against humanity in my book.

While not
exactly the same thing, this puts me in mind of a passage from Robert A. Heinlein's book, "Tramp Royale", which details his around-the-world trip in the 1950's.
He and his wife were in New Zealand, and touring a cave. Their guide was explaining how stalactites and stalagmites formed, and by way of demonstration snapped(!) off a thin stalactite to show them the layers inside.
RAH comments that such an action would have gotten the guide beaten within an inch of his life in Carlsbad Caverns after it was drilled into the guests there how precious and delicate the formations were.

I know they aren’t 2 million years old, but it would have been much better if they had pushed each other off a cliff.
