When Viggo Hansen, a county counselor from the Left Party in Sormland, Sweden, tried passing a law that required that men sit down to pee when using the public bathrooms, his motion caused a flood of reactions. Hansen argued when men sit down to pee it is better for public health because it reduces the splatter around the toilets and stops the spread of disease. Hansen is one of many—including the head of the environmental protection agency in Taiwan, Stephen Shen, who also tried mandating such an order—that believe errant urine is bad for public health. They argue that droplets of urine spread disease. But just how scientifically sound are these arguments? Is it actually better for men to sit down and pee?
“Urine is actually sterile,” says Benjamin Davies, an associate professor of urology at the University of Pittsburgh. “There is no bacteria in it. You can drink urine.” (Though he's not advocating that anyone does take a swig of urine.)
So puddles of urine might smell bad and look gross, but they won’t cause disease. But Hansen has another argument: Hansen claims that men who pee while sitting will fully empty their bladders, which is better for their prostates—and means they'll experience a longer, healthier sex life.
But again, Hansen's claims are totally off the mark. "This is total bullsh**," Davies says. "There is no relationship between voiding and sex life. I haven’t the slightest idea why it would improve your prostate. If you are a normal male your prostate muscles relax while you urinate.”
Bottom line: Completely healthy men experience no benefit by sitting to urinate instead of standing. Some conditions might mean it is easier for a man to fully empty his bladder if he sits down, but for the vast majority there is no difference between sitting and standing. However, some cultures prefer to sit rather than stand—almost half of all Japanese men sit to urinate.
Davies believes that sitting is a cultural or psychological preference, not a health issue. “If you are tired," he says, "go ahead and sit.”

Despite being disguised as a Mohammedan and speaking Arabic well enough to pass as a native, the bold Briton nearly blew his cover when he went to answer the call of nature. Beyond the light of the campfire, Burton relieved himself in the manner any Western would without a second though--standing up.
This was seen by one of the Moslem men who alerted his friends to the possibility a kaffir was in their midst.
Somehow, Burton, speaking Arabic, bluffed his way out of it and continued the journey and succeeded at being the first non-Moslem to make hajj and live to tell the tale.

Years ago I had a job at a paper warehouse. To get a bit more money for college I took on the job of cleaning up the office before regular work time. Included in the office cleanup were the bathrooms. It was a surprise of my young life the first time I went into the ladies room. There were piles of tissues with all kinds obnoxious stuff. Lucky for me my job ended when called for the draft.
I would guess that males have spent most of their millions of years of evolution by standing up when urinating. Most people recommending sitting down are either arch feminist wackos who want to put men in their place or mentally castrated, male sissies who are happy to be put in their place.

Agreed. It’s never bad form to be considerate of those who clean—and share—your facilities.
My wife and I are the reverse. She has to go immediately before we leave, and we must have prearranged pit stops on the way. She's constantly amazed at my bladder control...(an admittedly minor skill.) She'll be happy to hear there's a reverse situation involving couples.
If a Mom teaches a boy to sit to keep the bathroom clean, fine.
If an addle-brained lefty introduces legislation to remove urinals, and cites bogus reasons of health, it is not a stupid issue but another assault on manhood.
If a lesbian mother teachers her boy to sit in order to feminize him, I fear for that young man someday.
Good points....this “peeing standing up” is just another way to de-nut males.
Actually standing up empties the bladder the best....especially if you have a belly....sitting would constrict things
