Shelves in Two Lousiana Walmarts Cleared When Welfare Recipients Thought They Were Getting Free Food

Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd confirms they were called in to help the employees at Walmart because there were so many people clearing off the shelves. He says Walmart was so packed, “It was worse than any black Friday” that he’s ever seen.

Lynd explained the cards weren’t showing limits and they called corporate Walmart, whose spokesman said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700.00 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Walmart said they wouldn’t press charges if she left the food.

With that mix, I imagine that to be one smart dog. I’ve always been told that mutt mixes are the smartest. I kind of hate that people breed “pure-bred” dogs when there are so many good, smart, loyal mutts out there who would make fantastic pets for whatever a person’t particular need might be, who need good homes.

Mine are 2 golden labs, a vanilla lab mix (don’t know what mix), the Jack Russell, and the sweetest Irish Setter. Before I had all these, I had a buff cocker spaniel who was my soulmate for almost 18 years-very long-lived for a cocker. He went everywhere I went, was smart as a whip and had the heart of a lion. He had a treacherous streak-he would stand there and act all tolerant while someone petted him, then nip them as soon as they turned their back. He tried to pick fights with dogs three times his size. He was so smart! I never could teach him to do “dog tricks”-he was smart enough, but contemptuous of performing for silly humans, and too dignified. His passing left a hole in my heart. I love all my current dogs, but only the Irish Setter comes close to being what my Rascal was to me. The vanilla lab comes close but in a different way. She’s the sweetest, most patient and docile dog-until she thinks I’m threatened, then she turns into Cujo. Could any creature be better than man’s best friend? Not to me!

Every JR I've ever seen was hyper, but this one seems to have an added attribute of sheer neuroses, to boot, lol. He wants to fight my vacuum, my broom, my mop, he bullies my sweetest golden lab (until the lab fnally gets fed up and nips him on the ear, good and hard), he tries to ride herd on the other dogs, and he can't stand my husband to come near me. When someone stays in our guest room, he holes up in there and "adopts" whomever it is, and runs us (my husband and me) out of the room! He always has to be in the middle of whatever's going on. He's just too smart and energetic to not always be interested and alert to his environment.

She’s a very smart dog. I really hate that she can’t be an inside full time dog.

She figured out quick I was the softie that would bring her treats and stuff.

My mom had a German Shepherd that was very protective of her. My dad got home from an extended trip once and hugged mom really tight and patted her firmly on the back. The dog hopped up and quizzically asked him (in dog speak) ‘are you insane?, she feeds me hamburger meat and gravy with my food...who the heck are YOU?’ LOL

Daddy backed away, slowly.

That dog ate better than the kids ate. If WE didn’t like what she’d fixed for supper it was a long time till breakfast. If the dog turned up his nose at supper she’d doctor it till she found something he’d eat. He was sooooo spoiled. She would feed him ground hamburger meat sometimes. He slept next to her side of the bed too. At 110lbs he was formidable. But a huge softy with my kids. He herded them to one of us if they tried to wander off LOL.

They are funny dogs. My sister has one. Intelligent and “wiry”. I call her the “Barney Fife” of dogs.

The SO2 emissions I’m smelling are from my 14 year-old dog.
I’m a zonie (lol, the cali name for us desert dwellers to the east).

I still have on my bucket list to stand on the two plates where they come up to the surface outside Parkfield. Tried to persuade on of my kids to do it for me when he went to Cali for an Art Convention.

Started watching it closely, and it stopped. Don’t know if that is good or bad?

UPS had their home number and the delivery guy would call from down the road to ask her to put the dog up.

I miss that dog as much as she does. She thinks she’s too old right now to get a new puppy so he hasn’t been replaced. When our elderly cats pass on, however, I’ve decided if we get an inside/outside dog it will be a German Shepherd.

That’s apt :) They are indeed funny, in the case of “Ares” (we named him appropriately, for the Roman god of war, before we knew a thing about him!), he’s “funny-weird”!

That’s what I have to do when service people come to the house, tell them to please call when they’re on the way so I can put the dogs up.

When mine go, I’m going to want more dogs, but I’m afraid that I’ll be too old to outlast them, and I just can’t feel that anyone would love them like I do. But on the other hand, if it were just one or two, I know that I have enough siblings who know how I feel about them and who love me enough :) that they’d take on one or two and do their best on my behalf. At least it would be one-two more dogs saved from life on the streets. I know that as long as it wasn’t more than two, my brother would never let them go to the pound. He knows I’d haunt him, and he loves dogs too, though he’s not as “gushy” about it as I tend to get.

If I do, it’ll just be whatever strays I come across that I can take home and help.

I can’t even read “cruelty to animals” stories, it haunts my mind for days, and makes me want to inflict cruel and unusual punishment on the sorry excuse for “humans” who did it. It’s about the only thing I’m squeamish over.

I wonder if it would work to have a small kiddie pool for your dog? One of my sisters had a neighbor who was neglecting the puppy in their backyard, so when I visited the sister, I bought a kiddy pool , sneaked it into their yard, filled it with water, and showed the poor thing how to get in. It was also better than nothing when they didn’t think to put fresh water out in the Texas heat. They didn’t seem to mind when they caught me, I also bought a huge bag of dog food so they would feed the poor thing. I’d have dog-napped it if I could have.

Not implying anything at all, I can tell you’re a good and caring dog owner! Just an idea.

She’s got access to plenty of water. She’s got a ginormous water bowl.

Stinker’s figured out how to turn on the outside faucet. And play in the water. Fortunately you can hear the water on and I can go out and shut it off when she does this. Muddy wet dog! LOL

She would probably ‘eat’ a kiddy pool. She eats everything else. I finally ditched the neato plastic dog bowl idea and just gave her stainless steel ones.

I’ve seen a short dog jump a fence-my niece has a rescue pitbull puppy that came with her to visit me from out of town. The dog is very attached to my niece, at that time had attachment issues. So we were swimming in the pool out back, which is fenced in. We had the dogs lying around watching (they won’t get in, I couldn’t have kept my cocker out!), when my niece left for a minute to go inside. That pitbull, still a puppy, jumped up and cleared the fence to follow her! It was amazing, and hilarious, it was like seeing a dog fly, lol

That’s cute! She had a will and found a way, lol.

Someone told my husband that for some reason, plastic isn’t the best material to use for dog water bowls-don’t know why, or if it’s true, but just in case, we use a huge clear glass bowl for the water, and stainless bowls for the food.

Well WalMart certainly set a precedent for other retailers to follow, or else.

Well for us the decision was constant replacement of the ‘eaten’ plastic bowls. Was afraid she’d be one of those X-ray before pics of dogs who ate weird stuff LOL.
