Truck Convoy Protest Causing Traffic Problems on Capital Beltway (Live Thread)
CBS ^ | Friday, October 11, 2013

Posted on 10/11/2013 6:30:47 AM PDT by kristinn

A convoy of tractor-trailers planning to circle the Capital Beltway in protest of the federal government has begun its descent on the Washington area and is causing some traffic problems for the morning commute.

The “Truckers Ride for the Constitution,” which organizer Zeeda Andrews said could attract as many as 3,000 big rigs to the nation’s capital, only had about 10 participants as of 8:30 a.m.

Andrews insists the convoy is meant to be a peaceful protest rather than a traffic clog. The organizer said Thursday that reports of the trucks planning to take up three lanes of the Beltway were inaccurate, and that they should only occupy one lane of traffic.

But WNEW’s John Domen, who began following the trucks as they drove north past a truck stop on Interstate-95 in Dumfries, Va., said trucks were taking up all four lanes of the Inner Loop of the Beltway in Annandale, Va. and had slowed to 10 mph, blocking traffic from getting by.

10 mph at 8:30 AM? That is faster than normal.

Did OBayMe, his Regime, Pelosi, Reid, et al. go out to welcome We The People to the DC political sewer?

When we visited DC, all we heard were police and ambulance sirens. The place is a pit!

Sounds like your boss understands how this regime works.

The big, powerful government takes pics of the little people and harass them out of their livelihoods if the little people refuse to bend over and grab their ankles.

Are we going to accept that without a fight?

I forget which program, but FOX News DID carry a story and interview about it. I think it was Megan. She was interviewing one of the organizers of the protest who was wearing a US Flag-inspired shirt. She gave quite a bit of time to the interview.

“... it would just anger people and make them more inclined to DESPISE your cause.”

Yeah, because everybody who works inside the beltway is for a smaller, fiscally responsible government that respects the rights of the states and the people!

All the stuff I see on their status just looks like normal DC congestion. Can anybody tell differently?

It was a phone call from someone he knows. He didn’t know if it was true but neither of us doubted that it would be something they would do.

These trucking regulations are getting out of hand now. Safety scores, the new hours of service regs, wanting mandatory electronic logging devices, etc. Just the logging devices for a 50 truck fleet will cost over $220,000 min. My neighbor works with the DOT. He told me there is no way they can enforce some of the new hour of service regs. He also said his supervisors don’t know either.

I’d love to be apart of the protest but he owns the truck.

“if they are on the same side, then they will understand”

I would be proud and stoked to be “stuck” behind or among these patriots. God knows there has been enough publicity about this over the past several days; that’s plenty of time for people to adjust plans for a couple of hours. Alternate routes exist. Tell boss you might be a bit late considering the circumstances. It doesn’t hurt for dems to engage their brains (inadequate as they are) for a bit of cogitation. Can’t hurt; might help.

I am aware of their accommodations.

FACT remains it would clog things up and cause delays even for EVs, and possibly lead to even fatal accidents. It is irresponsible. I sympathize with their ideas, but this is not the way to get it done. I ally with many people in my own activist organizations, but I don’t at all agree with all of the ideas that come out of it.

Do you really think everyone on the Beltway is working in DC in any way? People are traveling and shipping, too, not even going inside the Beltway. Heavens, truckers who actually haul for work on the Beltway! In fact, it’s basically guaranteed some truck will overturn near the stupid 270 interchange in the afternoon every day, as it is.
