COLLEYVILLE — The clinic under construction in Colleyville has all the trappings of an ordinary doctor's office. But Dr. Kevin Wacasey is planning something revolutionary here. He’s offering what he says is truly affordable health care. "It's a cash clinic," Dr. Wacasey said. "That's just like it used to be in the good old days back before managed care took over."

I’m waiting for a barter system. Take some “hicker-nuts” to the doc.

They do indeed offer affordable healthcare without insurance.

Being uninsured simply means you save your own money and manage your own health rather than relying upon some distant 3rd party to not only do that for you but dictate what economic & life trade-offs you can make.

This is indeed the ideal way to manage healthcare, and just about the only way you can control price in this kind of market.

Like it or not health insurance does not effectively induce people to live healthy or make cheaper healthcare choices anymore than having someone elses credit card induce you to be financially conservative.

I caught a little of Hanitty’s show in the car yesterday and he had a doctor on talking about his concierge services. It sounded very intriguing. You’d still need a major medical plan but for all the little(r) stuff, this would work.

Those types of cash based clinics are springing up in several states.

Any doctor can elect to become cash-only and lower his prices, but I do wonder what the impact would be regarding hospitalization, lab tests, etc.

Several years ago, I had some x-rays done at a small area hospital. Without insurance, they cost me $200. If I had had insurance, my co-pay would have $20, and the insurance company only would have had to pay $80, while the hospital ‘ate’ the other $100.

There are actually quite a few of these cash-only clinics around.

Awesome. I anticipated this and it’s good to see the rumblings begin.

If Obamacare goes forward, they will make these types of clinics illegal. It will be done by federal regulation—not by laws passed by Congress. Anything that doesn’t support the socialist model intended will be stopped, one way or another. That is part of what’s at stake in this showdown over funding Obamacare, and both sides know it.

So why don’t ALL doctors get together to come up with a solution(not program) for all?

But, if that same doc orders any drugs, they are full list price and no insurance pays for it.

There’s more. Minor stuff can be taken care of by a registered nurse-no doc present. Something says this would be too threatening.

If this starts catching-on, watch for the medical boards threaten to yank their licenses to practice.

I like this plan very much.

But obamma requires you to purchase health insurance or you will be fined.

My daughter gets her drugs from Walmart at 4.00 a pop, lots of places have 4.00 prices, and lots of drug companies offer great prices on their meds, especially if they are maintence drugs You can look up wal mart drugs and see what they offer, and the other stores as well...and ask your Dr. to prescribe if feasible their drugs...

A big problem here is that advertising prices is illegal, I believe.

My wife called around for MRI quotes, and couldn’t get one.

The “tell” here is that LASIK surgery, which is not paid for by insurance, has steadily dropped in price, in contrast to all other medical procedures.

Agh! it was never the office visits, the minor care that is the problem! It's the hospitalization. No matter how many years I am on FR, trying to point out how the average big city hospital is comparable to the space shuttle, I cannot ever make a dent. Your family doc is cheaper than your plumber!!

Agh!

I do wonder what the impact would be regarding hospitalization, lab tests, etc.

The government will eventually prevent cash based doctors from having privileges at hospitals the control. Private labs are springing up all over the place.

The silver will turn to lead. Under Zer0care, they will go under or be shut down.
