(CNSNews.com) - Government shutdown or not, there's no reason to keep elderly veterans away from the World War II Memorial, says Rep. Louie Gohmer (R-Texas), who was there on Tuesday when a group of 85- to 98-year-olds from entered the barricaded Memorial grounds.
"It is a granite sidewalk -- it's a sidewalk!" Gohmert told Fox News on Wednesday."They (the National Park Service) spent extra money to go find barriers to put up in front of these World War II vets. And I'm wondering what are they going to do next -- hang a drapery over Mt. Rushmore? I mean, this is ridiculous!"
Gohmert questioned what the Obama administration is thinking, to close a memorial "and make these guys suffer."
That’s just it, if they WERE NOT doing these things, most of America wouldn’t even notice the government was shut down and that is the point we all need to start making as every day goes by: “See? another day down and guess what? The world is still turning”.
Oh GEEEEEZE that’s funny!
Last night our local news said “THE BUFFALO NATIONAL RIVER HAD BEEN SHUT DOWN!” because of the government shutdown. They then showed several drying up puddles, but never showed the river itself.
A few months ago I told a girl at Yellowstone that after dark the park rangers turn off the pumps to the falls and the boilers to the geysers.
She didn’t believe me.;-D
It is all to make the peasants feel as much inconvenience and pain as possible. There needs to be a Republican Congressman in front of every memorial in Washington telling the people that they have proposed sending a bill that would keep the parks open but the Senate Rats and Obama have refused to pass them. Then give them all the numbers to the WH switchboard and all the Senate Rats’ offices.
As much as I detest 0bama, I would be surprised if this was his personal decision. You have to realize that there are thousands and thousands of mean, evil, despicable, America-haters working in the federal government. There are hundreds of thousands of government “workers”, many of them within Dept. of the Interior, capable of making such a spiteful decision. And they’ll still be around when 0bama is long gone.
The lawsuit thing is their excuse, but it’s a bogus one. The memorials are open 24/7, but park service employees are not there 24/7. They don’t put up barricades at night - when, presumably it would be even MORE dangerous.
Please don’t buy into their propaganda - they put up barricades for ONE REASON - to cause inconvenience and pain to ordinary citizens, and then try to blame the Tea Party.
Best “battle call” of the 21st Century!
Re putting a drape over Mt. Rushmore. I think it would serve America a lot better if they put a drape over Mt. Michelle.
Some guy on the Hannity radio show yesterday said that keeping people out of some parks was using more manpower than letting them stay open.
Obama is so childish, just like when he shut down the WH visits because of the sequester and tried to blame the SS.
Oh, and Michelle’s twitter account posted that she won’t be tweeting until the gov’t opens back up. That hurts!/s
We have an administration that acts like 10 year olds.
That makes a winning combination for restoring America.
Tweet from Eric Shultz:
“Anyone ask the very GOPers upset w/ the WWII mem if they’d support a clean CR? EVERY memorial would reopen, as would the govt”
How about doing this nationwide with carefully selected locations? Just open-air, generally accessible Federal memorials and parks—no closed buildings you would have to break in and enter.
Keep it in the public eye. Everywhere.
They are on defense with this. Press the advantage.
Sorry folks, Grand Canyon's covered over. Moose outside shoulda told you.
Who the “government god’s” wish to destroy they must first make them angry....
Brilliant title!!!!
can somebody mock it up in photoshop?
“we are asking all visitors to washington to not look at the washington monument. President Obama has officiall declared all viewing closed due to the SHUTDOWN. In addition all lower case letters in the word SHUTDOWN are also closed.”
