At the WWII Memorial on the National Mall:
No sign of folks leaving. The vets have control of the memorial. #shutdown pic.twitter.com/eGj4kmFEiP

No attempt to stop any WWII visitors right now. Maybe after the congressmen leave ... #shutdown pic.twitter.com/SZmxBfh2cr

As noted in the last post, Congressman Steve King "distracted" the Capitol Park Police while the veterans, per their training, rushed over the barriers.
Here's a brief Vine video of the veterans reclaiming their Memorial from Obama's Shutdown Theater Prop Workshop.
I honestly hate the left, I saw the typical Obama guy last week with his bozo stickers and I just looked at him, waited for him to look at me and said ,:have you not woken up yet “and then shook my head
We didnt come this far not to get in, one veteran proclaimed.
The scene was both emotional and comical at once. After it was clear they had lost control of the situation, Park Police officials stood aside, telling press that they had asked for guidance on how to respond to the breach of security.
As 80-something veterans slowly walked around the massive war memorial, Park Police stood quietly to the side, advising other tourists that the site was technically still closed. But they made no moves to stop the wishes of the war heroes.
Why does Mt. St. Helen's even have a live cam? It's a mountain - it just sits there. Other than that one time, it doesn't do anything.
When my 10 yo granddaughter and I were at the WWII memorial in July people were sitting on the side with their feet in the water..
My granddaughter naturally thought that a great idea in the hot sun..
I thought it sacrilege and disrespectful but how could I stop her when adults including veterans sat next to her enjoying the cool water ??
so I explained that it was like a cemetary and tombstones and what I thought of the idea and who the heroes were and told her if she sat nice and quiet and still she could..
I dont remember being there in the summer before..its usually colder when I visit Washington..
Comments please...
YES!
We stood shoulder-to-shoulder with "biker veterans" (most probably from the Vietnam era) on March 17, 2007 in DC, protecting all war monuments in the city from the scumbag unwashed anti-war anarchists. The pantywaist anarchists were pretty intimidated by the black leather-clad "biker vets" plus the sheer number of patriots who showed up. It was a beautiful site to behold... :-)
Hate is too soft a word.
I seethe with anger...when I think of what they have done to my country.
Lucky Granny. She is going to have one great story to tell!
Now fast forward to 28 July, 1932.
Who better to watch over such a thing... there ought to be veterans (as would be available, of course) volunteering to do it all the time, gummit shutdown or not.
Circumstantial poetry here.
Just wait’ll some of the locals start moving barricades and see the trash they leave behind.
Pathetic that the executive branch would close off these memorials.
I sure hope illegal immigrants are stuck at the border in this shutdown. We need barricades at the border. hahaha /sarcasm
Ha! I’d like to see Bathhouse Barry look these vets in the eye and tell them that they aren’t welcome at their own memorial.
For real. How much does it cost to operate?
The Dow is still rising even though The Democrates shut down the Govt.!!!!!
Tears..great photo.
I’ve been to the memorial, it’s wide open so what douche decided to place barricades there??
88 years old and was in the WAVES while my late grandfather was in Europe.
Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em. Lock and load.
Embarrassing for Congress:
” WWII veterans in wheelchairs can keep the government open, Congress can’t.
