Defiant House Delays Obamacare; Government Shutdown Looms
CNN ^ | September 29, 2013 | Tom Cohen and Holly Yan

In a move that makes a government shutdown very likely, House Republicans approved a spending plan early Sunday morning that would delay Obamacare for a year and repeal its tax on medical devices.

The temporary budget resolution now goes back to the Senate, where Democrats have consistently said any changes to President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law is a deal-killer.

...

The decision to vote on the House amendments overnight emerged from a rare weekend GOP caucus meeting called by House Speaker John Boehner. The votes, taken after midnight, were 231-192 for the Obamacare delay, and 248-174 for the medical device tax repeal, mostly along party lines.

Two Democrats broke rank and voted for the Obamacare delay: Mike McIntyre of North Carolina, and Jim Matheson of Iowa.

Seventeen Democrats voted for the tax repeal. Meanwhile, a bill to guarantee pay for military personnel during any shutdown passed 423-0.

"And the two will never reconcile, and cannot coexist indefinitely. I wonder if a final breakup is inevitable?"

I don't buy your premise, at least the part where you say and cannot coexist indefinitely. What exactly do you think has been going on since 1865? That seems like a pretty indefinite timeline to me.

In answer to your other question, a breakup is likely coming. Nothing is truly inevitable other than perhaps death, taxes, and the corruption of politicians. But unfortunately, secession is probably in the cards. And it will result in the death of lots and lots of Americans who are completely indifferent to it in any case.

Irreconcilable differences. Conservatives want freedom; liberals want control. There is no way to close this gap. We are hopelessly polarized, a house divided amongst itself. Eventually something’s gotta give.

I don't agree that somethings got to give. It hasn't given since 1865, so why the rush now? As for Conservatives want freedom; liberals want control, most Americans don't give a damn one way or the other. They are completely ambivalent because they don't see much difference between the old boss and the new boss.

So more than likely, secession is coming and in the end we'll have a lot of dead Americans to show for it. And not a whole lot else.

All that is left is the “grudge-boinking”.

I secession rears it's ugly head, we're likely see that. And rape. And murder. And starvation. And orphans. And disease. And all sorts of other stuff that civil wars tend to bring along in their wake.

I agree, but the breakup is going to be bloody.

That it will be.

This isn't 1865. Civil war won't move at the speed of the telegraph.

Besides, there are many more people here from other countries. Most of them are permanent residents, and not citizens. What would the foreigners do, take up sides or go home?

Are Indian programmers going to fight for Obamacare?

Will the white middle class sit still if this "civil war" is mostly poor inner-city blacks and Mexican illegals fighting to take over the country? Many would see that as "invasion," not "civil war."

I don't think you can evoke 19th century or third-world images to cite how a "civil war" would play out today in the United States.

There is another solution. I do not propose secession, but EJECTION.

Can you imagine how much better off we would be if about a dozen states were removed from the union? Partitioning some of them, as was done with West Virginia, via county level referendums could also be done.

A less radical solution would be for the GOP to become a true second party by requiring closed primaries in all states. If a particular state’s rules disallow closed primaries, don’t have a GOP primary there. New Hampshire has open primaries, and the Democrats cross over every year to help the most repugnantly liberal candidate become the nominee.

Let’s think of ways to avoid bloodshed.

Let’s think of ways to avoid bloodshed.

Well, let us try for sure. At the same time, we need to keep our powder dry, because the other side might force the bloodshed upon us, whether we want it ir not.

“Let’s think of ways to avoid bloodshed.”

Amen, brutha. Here’s a very simple solution that doesn’t even require politics to enter into it: don’t obey.

Every socialist regime relies on the more productive aspects of society to quietly obey their edicts.

The sadly hilarious thing about mcconnelcare is that there are very minimal penalties for noncompliance. And the law has no teeth to force compliance. Research it if you don’t believe me. Yet we talk about it’s implementation like the the four horsemen of the apocalypse are coming on their charging steeds to enforce it.

I get the sense at times that many conservatives wouldn’t jaywalk to avoid a burning building. Because after all, that would be against the RULES!

Well, I did say that was a questionable presumption. But it may be the one the politicians are using.

As long as everybody is acknowledging that the usurper is getting away with unconstitutional acts like giving Obamacare waivers against the actual language of the law, there’s no reason to presume that ANYTHING will be done lawfully. Some of us “nutcases” have been saying that for a long time. We were an “embarrassment” to the cool people.

Obama has found it very easy to advance his narrow ideological agenda of failure-prone Marxism.

4 years after Obama conned his Democrats into passing the Federal takeover of the cash cow of Medical Insurance, the PC, Doormat Republicans are finally timidly suggesting defunding that Federal takeover.

Without the weak, PC, Doormat Republicans Boehner and McConnell being stupidly kept in their respective leadership positions by truly cowardly House and Senate Members, Obama Medical Insurance “Care” Takeover would have been defunded long ago.

The primal yearning of the 47 % who pay no personal Federal Income tax is to belong to a tribe where all of their choices are dictated to them by their arrogant tribal leader.

This a common trait of those who have low self-esteem.

In that sense, Obamanation is truly a cult: low self-esteem people believing everything their cult leader tells them, no questions asked.

Freedom is defined in the dictionary as follows:
1.) Exemption or liberation from slavery or imprisonment.
3.) Liberty of choice or action.

Most of the 47 % riding in the “free” wagon seek out slavery, and lack of personal choice.

They thus feel safe, and secure in the knowledge that this is a bad as it is going to get.

Liberty is defined in the dictionary as follows:
1.) The state of being exempt from the domination of others or from restricting circumstances; freedom.
5.) The power of voluntary choice: freedom from necessity.
6.) Individual Liberty: Freedom from restraint in the performance of rights outside of government control.

Most people who are getting a free ride in the wagon where 47 % pay no personal Federal Income Taxes, are terrified of making a voluntary choice.

The 47 % would prefer that they be under government control where the choices are made for him.

All of this societal wussiness has made it very easy for B. Hussein Obama, aka Barry Soetoro, to advance his narrow ideological agenda of European-style, failure-prone, Marxism in spite of PC, Doormat Republican token “opposition.”

BTW, unlike taxes, Federal Obama ‘care’ Insurance charges can be increased EVERY YEAR to whatever % the present and future arrogant leaders of Obamanation wants.

BTW, BTW, the free-loading 47 % will always vote for the Candidate for POTUS approved by Obamanation.

The question to be asked is: “If it is in the Nation’s best interest to shut down the Government, then why are there only TWO Federal Politicians, Obama and Reid, loudly advocating shutting down the US Federal Government?

Obama has MANY reasons to shutdown the Federal Government such as:

1.) A headline grabbing story that will distract attention from the Impeachable scandals of:

Benghazi Massacre Dereliction of Duty by Obama as CIC;
Obamacare Insurance managed by the corrupt IRS;
IRS harassment of political opponents of Obama;
Use of the NSA by Obama to spy on everybody in the USA;
etc, etc.

2.) The use of fear of a shutdown might help to protect defunding and eventual abolishment of Obama’s narrowly focused ideological agenda of an European-style, failure-prone, Marxist, monopoly of the US Medical Insurance Industry.

3.) Spreading fear and blame might also preserve Obama’s power to increase Obamacare Insurance premiums on an annual basis.

*This would be highly advantageous to Obama as the increase in mandatory insurance premiums would not be a tax, as the “unexpected market conditions” would be given as the reason for the increase.

*Also there would be no need to ask for the “Advice and Consent” of Congress, as the IRS would be in complete control of all income and medical records.

4.) The last reason is the most important for Obama, personally: America would at last no longer be a Nation where the Liberty to choose one’s own family destiny could ever exist again.

As for Reid, the best guess I have is that he wants a Government Monopoly of the Medical Insurance Industry. Well, to be fair, Reid calls for a “single payer” system.

My suspician is that multi-millionaire Reid, nearing Federal retirement, owns a lot of stock in some companies that are tied to a “single payer” system.

Maybe the NSA, or the IRS can find out for us?

I’m going to ask my US Senator from TEXAS, The Esteemed Senator John “To Hell with my voters” Cornyn to check on this for me - - - .

Government shutdown looms...Thread #149.

Shut it down hard...Do it now.

Everday it’s shut down, eliminate 5,000 federal employees and reduce their bloated pensions by 50%.

They should pass a law the delays ObamaCare for a year - for normal Americans! but immediately imposes it on all politicians and governmental workers. Let congress and their staff and the Supreme Court suffer the consequences for a year before the average American has to.

If Obama agrees to the delay it’s because they are not set up to do this... not because he’s doing the right thing...

It’s amazing the number of journalists and Democrates and even Obama saying theirs much that isn’t right about this BEast....yet they all signed onto it one way or another...

So the push is to get the revenue going for the Government coffers...which is what this is in the first place. A cash Hog for them to give it away to all the foreign countries milking our purses...

“SHUTDOWN THE GOVERNMENT?! BUT HOW WOULD WE EAT OR BREATHE?! This is a warning to Ted Cruz and all his ilk: If the government stops operating for even one day — chaos and cannibalism will reign in the streets. Mark my words. Yeah, a government shutdown would only impact “non-essential” federal government functions. And, yeah, some might even argue that the government should only be doing the essential things in the first place. But that will be of little solace when you’re bleeding on the ground, being eaten alive by the starving masses. I can scarcely imagine the horror. If non-essential government agencies and departments are forced to close for a short period of time, that means we’ll have to find a way to go without the Administration on Aging, and the Japan-United States Friendship Commission, and the Indian Arts and Crafts Board, and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. WHERE WILL I GET MY TRANSPORTATION STATISTICS?! You’re playing with fire, conservatives. Civilization is bound together by the strong, steady hand of bureaucracy. If you loosen its grasp, you risk plunging us all into a dark, perilous land of individual responsibility and liberty. Our Founders fought and died to rescue us from such a fate, and I’ll be damned if I sit here and let you undo their efforts.”
