Republican tensions grew Thursday as Tea Party-aligned senators rejected a bid to speed up the vote on a bill to fund the government while defunding ObamaCare, with one senior lawmaker accusing his colleagues of posturing -- as the chances of a government shutdown increased.
The flurry of activity occurred late Thursday afternoon on the Senate floor. With lawmakers facing a Sept. 30 deadline to pass a spending bill, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid tried to get approval to hold key votes on Thursday, in order to give the House more time to consider the legislation.
But Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, objected, along with Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. That puts off the next vote until Friday.
Their complaints prompted a tense encounter on the floor with Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., who suggested the only reason they want to wait until Friday is because they want to turn the vote into a show for supporters.
"This is confusing to me," Corker said. "I'm understanding the reason we're waiting is that y'all have sent out releases and emails and you want everybody to be able to watch. It just doesn't seem to me that that's in our nation's interest."
Cruz later said: "I think it is unfortunate that any member of the United States Senate should want our votes to occur outside of the view of the American people."

Tea Party Senators rock! Keep up the good work gentlemen (and ladies)!
I'm afraid the linguini will take over the spine that Boner seems to be showing. I'm afraid the cheap suit will fold before Boner keeps this (uncharacteristically) show of a spine! (Short) Time will tell!
Open your eyes! McConnell, Boehner, Cantor, McCarthy - that's what "real Republicans" ARE.
“Cruz later said: “I think it is unfortunate that any member of the United States Senate should want our votes to occur outside of the view of the American people.”
OF THE PEOPLE... BY THE PEOPLE... FOR THE PEOPLE
“This is confusing to me,” Corker said. “I’m understanding the reason we’re waiting is that y’all have sent out releases and emails and you want everybody to be able to watch. It just doesn’t seem to me that that’s in our nation’s interest.”
OF CORRUPTION, BY CORRUPTION... FOR CORRUPTION
Yes shut that Obamacare down and more. Shut down education, EPA, IRS, HUD, the fed, ...shut it all except the courts and the military.
That was the money line and the "ah ha" moment. Cruz is laying bare the cynicism, hypocrisy and theatre that is the US Senate. I like this one. He has mucho el laton cojone's.
...and rockheads like you.
You didn't vote for the IMPOSTOR, you were too pure, and you let us know all about it.
Those of us who compared Romney to obama saw what we had to do, but the purists saw too much rino in Romney and stayed at home.
No bitching from you about obama, your vote for him is loud and clear.
You voted for obama, and we have to live with your decision.
#10 - looking very Reaganesque there....
Methinks the poll numbers had more to do with boehners “come to Jesus” moments than anything else.
Some day the Lord is going to bring total judgment down on Sodom on the Potomac. When He does, even every stone will melt with the heat the Lord will pour out on that cess pool of sin. There are so very, very, very few decent people inside that stinking beltway. When the Lord pulls the plug on Sodom, it is goodbye, so long, farewell, you are out of here and on the way to the Lake of Fire via the Great White Throne Seat of Judgment for the lost.
"Who decides what looks presidential?"
The reporter replied, "In New York, I do. In Chicago, you'll have to ask someone else."
Yes, this was a sheer genius. The unspoken finish to this is "It ain't cuz you're such a a persuasive statesman!"
Obama's team did something weird. Their email trying to rally supporters (are there any left?) around Obamacare had a title that vilified Boehner as the "bad guy" in the HOR for not stopping the vote. That's pretty amazing since conservatives were disgusted with Boehner compromising with Obama and looking awful for it. Maybe Boehner's finally disgusted.
Been a long time since we've seen a Republican with this level of intelligence using it to represent his constituents. I hope his effort wakes the Senate and the sheeple up to what should be going on there.
Sorry.
The ones who lost the election were the tens of millions of registered Republicans who voted for Mitt in the primaries.
Dang, I’ve seen you over on the religion threads, and you sound quite like a Mormon. I understand why you are still showing support for your “one.”
Listen to this and listen clearly. I held my nose and voted for a loser because I felt like that was what I had to do to stop Obama.
But NO MORE. The next time you Carl Rove types tell us we gotta vote for "x" because he's the only one who can win...I'm telling you to stick it. I am DONE compromising my principles and letting the GOP-E pick my candidate...because "well....he's better than the alternative."
And as long as people vote for these guys...because they'r better (and NOT MUCH BETTER) than the dim...they won't get the message...and they will continue to give you candidates that are just to the right of Hillary. And we will continue to lose.
It has to stop. There comes a time when you have to say: ENOUGH and send these guys in power a message. PERIOD.

“Would Harry Reid & Senate Ds vote yes on cloture tomorrow if it were truly a vote to #DefundObamacare?” #MakeDCListen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TXZsSgPT5s
Great question!
You want my vote? Run a conservative and reign in your cheating GOP-E.
