This has been the worst time, politically, for President Barack Obama since he took office. Recent polls reveal that public confidence in both his domestic and foreign policies has been falling, amid revelations about their defects and dangers. Even people who once supported and defended him have now turned against him.
There have even been rumblings against Barack Obama in the Congressional Black Caucus and among labor unions that were a major factor in helping him get elected and re-elected.
Two of President Obama's own former Secretaries of Defense have publicly criticized his gross mishandling of the Syria crisis, which has emboldened America's enemies and undermined our allies around the world.
As ObamaCare continues to go into effect, step by step, its high costs and dire consequences for jobs have become ever more visible as have the lies that Obama blithely told about its costs and consequences when it was rushed into law too fast for anyone to see that it would become a "train wreck," as one of its initial Democratic supporters in the Senate has since called it.
As more and more revelations have come to light about the cynical and dangerous misuse of the Internal Revenue Service to harass and sabotage conservative political groups, the lies that the Obama administration initially told about this, as part of the coverup, have also been exposed.
So have the lies told about what happened in Benghazi when four Americans were killed last year. Their killers remain at large, though they are known and are even giving media interviews in Libya.
With Congressional investigations still going on, and turning up more and more revelations about multiple Obama administration scandals, the political problems of this administration seem to loom ahead as far out as the eye can see.

Excerpt from comment #1:
"Paul is wrong. Reid is wrong. McCain is wrong. We don't need the irrational senate to pass a defunding bill. We don't need to pass a bill at all. "
Rand Paul: GOP probably cant defeat Obamacare [Reid, McCain concur. Wrong! Read on]
He understands it, he just doesn’t think now is the time to fight it. I have the greatest respect for Dr. Sowell, but I disagree with him on this one. We must fight this bill very hard. I agree that Obama will simply veto the bill even if it passes the Senate. But if we show we’re giving in meekly, this monstrosity will be permanent.
Mistake or not, once the Republicans took this stand, it is suicide to abandon it. It would empower the Democrats beyond measure for Republicans to crumble on this.
The reaction of the Dems is very telling and leads me to believe that this is the right course for Republicans to take. The Dems are absolutely RABID about this vote. And it’s because they know they are vulnerable, and that Republican have found their Achilles heel.
Wouldn't that still leave ObamaCare unfunded? Without a bill, explicit funding will note be allocated to ObamaCare.
Just asking, not looking to stir up an argument. The thought just occurred to me; I'm a little slow on the uptake.
Sowell says Obamacare is an economic and medical disaster that will destroy the Constitution's protections of American citizens from the unbridled power of the federal government. Yet he goes on to say that the defunding battle is not worth fighting now. However, he does not suggest exactly what battle is worth fighting or when that might be.
To Mr. Sowell I would say that anything that could destroy the Constitution's protections of American citizens from the unbridled power of the federal government is something that can never go unchallenged. Indeed, it is worth fighting against everyday.
But if we show were giving in meekly, this monstrosity will be permanent.
******
And giving in meekly will invite even more power grabs by Obama and the ruling elites. Weakness in the face of aggression ALWAYS invites more aggressive behavior.
Republican caving that has gone on for decades has brought us to this sad point in our history. The Founding Fathers would ba ashamed of our timidity and weakness.
Yes, it will leave Obamacare unfunded but it will also leave “the government” unfunded.
There would be no spending bill approved so the government would “shut down,” whatever that means. (I am sure they would find money to keep the lights and heat on at the White House, and likely to throw lavish dinners and parties too...oh and Air Force One would continue to zip around the airspace like a deranged bottlefly...)
Some kind of spending bill will eventually have to be passed, just because the media and the fifty or so percent of the populace who depend on handouts will make the alternative unacceptable.
I don’t suppose the Senate will have the stones to defund Obamacare and pass the stripped-down spending bill to the Prez.
But I wish they would. Let him veto it. Let him shut down the government. My goodness it would be like tearing up his golf pass for the year.
Don’t know. I thought it was already being funded. I assumed, maybe incorrectly, that once a bill was passed into law, it had to be funded. But you might be right.
Budgets are annual things, or are supposed to be. Nothing is funded for more than a year at a time.

*********
So why not then strip out the money allocated for Obamacare for each agency. No mention of Obamacare would be needed to do that; just identify the authorized budget numbers for valid/approved programs. The Senate cannot add any money to the budget because they don’t have the power of the purse that the House has.
The horror. You don't think that something like THAT would be allowed to happen.
There was a guy here on FR who kept track of his golf games. Last thread I saw was before the 2012 election, and the count was in the 90s, for 3-ish years.
I work with salesmen whose job it is to play golf with clients. They WISH they got out on the course this often. It must be good to be king.
A final thought.... You know how when DC gets a snowstorm and they say "nonessential personnel need not come in"? Well, the "Nonessential personnel" list strikes me as a really good place to start unfunding.....
We have passed up a lot of scandalous behavior by Obama. We have to make a stand somewhere. It appears the politicians only want to fight when they have overwhelming support. If you wait until the time Is right, we may not have anything left to fight with.
Obama is a bully, let's call him out. Obamacare has the potential to be an existential change to our liberty.
I agree with you both, 0care is a threat to our Republic.
No, nice try, but the problem is worse than that.
The problem is, the Business Roundtable/Chamber and their lobbies want to get rid of employee healthcare. That is what this is all about.
To that end, the GOP has been taking a deliberate dive on every issue since 2006, for sure since 2008, so Obama and his Communists could bring them the Sovietcare relief valve that would let them dump their employees.
That's what we're talking about here. "Productivity" (pay cut for you), "competitiveness" (pay cut for you), and "capital formation" (you eat too much, and your kids are worse). Yes, yes, let's bring in 12,000,000 strangers ... they'll work for nothing. For an air-conditioned workspace and cab fare, and box lunch.
We're going to have to get these business-political people permanently separated from OUR elected officials, to break the bond between pols and extraneous, available, conditionally renewable (bribe) money.
The S&P 500 captains have bribed the GOP right out from under us, and the Communists are johnny-on-the-spot to take advantage. That's why Valerie Jarrett and her Charlie McCarthy dummy are in the White Hut while we are disenfranchised.
I’m not buying that, just yet. But I will keep an eye our for any evidence.
He had sources and quotes, but I have never seen any discussion of his stuff anywhere else. He went to the top of the tree and talked to the people who did the backroom deal on Obamacare -- not the Big Cheeses who signed off on it, but their staffers, the people in the room when the technical-level meetings ended.
See if you agree.
Only the House can fund Obamacare. If it chooses not to there ain't a damn thing Obama can do about it.
Why has Boehner & Co. forgotten this?
Sowell, like others, wants to wait for a better opportunity, but there is no better opportunity. There never will be a better opportunity. We've been waiting for this mythical opportunity for 3+ years. I suspect we will wait ‘til hell freezes over with our current leadership.
The saddest part of all: As incompetent, irrational, & untrustworthy as Obama is, there is no one in Congress who thinks he can be beaten. Cowards.
The only thing bigger than Barack Obama’s whoppers is this country’s demonstrated capacity to believe them.
