President Barack Obama is once again warning House Republicans that he will not negotiate over a debt-ceiling increase, even as the U.S. government moves closer to its borrowing limit.
Obama called Speaker John Boehner Friday night to reiterate his hard-line stance. The Ohio Republicans office said the president called to say he wouldnt negotiate with him on the debt limit.
Given the long history of using debt limit increases to achieve bipartisan deficit reduction and economic reforms, the speaker was disappointed but told the president that the two chambers of Congress will chart the path ahead, a Boehner aide said in an email. It was a brief call.
A White House official said Obama spoke to both Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
The President telephoned Speaker Boehner and told him again that the full faith and credit of the United States should not and will not be subject to negotiation, the official said in a statement provided to POLITICO. The President reiterated that it is the constitutional responsibility of the US Congress to pass the nations budget and pay the nations bills.

Obama is right. There is no need to negotiate. Congressman Boner is going to roll over for him any time he asks.
Is there a transcript of what Boner replied to zero? The GOP needs to get smart and start releasing this kind of communication between zero and House or Senate members. These communications are no longer private once the WH releases their side of the communication!
I think you hit the nail on the head. He got slapped down pretty good over trying to get us in a war in Syria, now he needs to go and push someone else around.
I rushed. I meant to say a CR with the sequester intact.
Then Baraq has made himself responsible for any government shutdown. Period. No prisoners on this one, Republicans, and above all, no capitulation.
Given the long history of using debt limit increases to achieve bipartisan deficit reduction and economic reforms, the speaker...”
This actually happened when, ever, in history?
I don’t know why Boehner didn’t call Ubama first and tell him there would be no debt negotiations.
If only they’d blow something up. He does negotiate with terrorists.
Because Obama is a STREET THUG!!
Let’s back off Boehner BASHING for a while, OK??? He did hold his caucus together for the anti-Obamacare vote, so let’s start bashing the DEMS....OK?? Just for a while.
Larry Kudlow said it was like the girl repeatedly phoning up her boyfriend to yell at him that she was “Not Speaking” to him anymore. Then both parties slamming the phone.
This is something that needs to be shouted from the rooftops...
OBAMA REFUSES TO NEGOTIATE!
Why? I’ve read enough in the comment sections on these articles to KNOW the liberal/progressives don’t have a clue that it is the DEMOCRATS that are holding all this up, not the Republicans.
From last night one comment to me was then the Republicans should pass a bill without 0bamacare in it and they can all come back to it later. I returned to them a link about what the heck the House passed.
AND I am sorry to say this, but I do think we need to downplay the fact that funding of the ACA is not in the bill of the CR. The House passed a bill to keep the government running period. I think the marketing guru’s of the Republican Party are failing to get the correct talking point out there! And like 0bama’s redline, we’re failing on the overall message, AGAIN.
I am to the point that I do think somebody needs to write the darn script and talking points for the Republican Party or at least let them borrow 0bama’s teleprompter for a day or two.
Boehner's response should have been, Well, Mr. President, we did pass a CR to keep the government operating at this time. Please call Sen. Harry Reid and tell him about it. Good night and have a nice weekend. Click.
1. A continuing resolution for the year that does not fund Obama care.
2. A debt ceiling increase targeted to get the US through the year.
At first glance, I could go with that. At a minimum, it delays 0asshatcare and gives us the midterms just as the implementation date approaches - which is good timing to keep the house and take the senate in a big way.
The Obama-Boehner call came on the same day as the GOP-controlled House passed a $986 billion resolution to avert a government shutdown Oct. 1. But that bill that also defunds Obamacare.
Yeah I meant to convey that an acceptable final disposition of the 0bamcare/CR/debt limit battle to me would be the delay of 0bamacare in a passed CR ... and ... a debt limit increase only to get us thru one year.
The final disposition would put us right back where we are now - but next time it will be immediately prior to midterms.
Heck, we’d get two things we want [delay 0dumbocare and set up for an election eve fight over the same things] and they’d get one thing they’d want [one yr of spending at today’s levels.]
I think the election time being at exactly the same time as the 0bamacare/CR/debt limit fight is the best gift we could ask for.
So the government shuts down.
It happened in 1995, and somehow we survived.
