One week ago, some neighbors and a construction crew spotted a young man breaking into cars near Joy and Birwood early in the morning. They say he was stealing the batteries and cutting cables.

I would have left a humorous note taped to him saying something like “Compliments of your friendly neighborhood Spiderman”.
What happened to his pants, did they make him squeal like a pig?
Pretty mild as far as vigilante justice in Detroit goes.
A few years back a Detroit man took his son to a vacant lot, put him on his knees and executed him for molesting a little girl.
"No Snitching." And these stupid people wonder why they're repeatedly victims of crime? To be clear, the victims of the crime were the people whose cars were damaged (cables cut). They were not involved with tying the reprobate to the tree, thus innocent of any possible charge of "Unlawful Detainment."
That’s probably why he couldn’t run the 100 dash in 12 seconds or better to get away.
Having that happen to him at the hands of citizens might actually be more effective than jail.
If someone had just called police and done nothing, it would be little deterrent. This way he learns that the people may act.
I thought so, too, cripplecreek. If he still has a sense of shame, he may learn the needed lesson.
The things you forget when you’re tying a crook to a tree...
I actually prefer this type of local justice for minor things like this. Its the justice of our founders.
Yep, and the little girl the boy molested was his own sister.
The fact that this guy was released will do one of two things in the minds of the people that apprehended him. Both start with the question, "Why bother calling the cops?", but end up very differently.
I mean hey, the battery was already out of the vehicle...
“too bad did not tie him by neck to a tall branch.......”
First thought that entered my (apparently racist) mind.
Let this happen in the South and the media puts a whole different slant on this.
It’s like the stocks. We should bring them back.
Hy=ey, look! They pulled down his pants. Oh, wait ...
Detroit already leads the nation in justifiable homicide.
For sure.
I think being locked in the stocks for 24 hours in the rain and the heat of day and cold of night while people are laughing and throwing dog sh!t at you and you are p!ssing down your leg would tend to have a wonderful deterrent effect on many petty criminals.
Repeat offenders could be tied to the whipping post and given 25 lashes.
If that didn't work, there is always the "ducking stool" with extended periods of under time for proper "reflection" on one's sins.
Or (for real recalcitrants) we could just hang them like we used to do to horse thieves, bank robbers, rapists, child molesters, kidnappers, and murderers. That worked pretty well, too!
The show “Courage New Hampshire” deals with local vs the King’s punishment in the years leading up to the revolution. (Andrew Breitbart has a small part as a British appointed Sheriff)

My thoughts exactly.
