A parent in Towson, Md., was arrested Thursday night at a public forum after vocally expressing his concerns about the Baltimore County School District’s plan to use Common Core standards in its curriculum.

Robert Small, a concerned father, was forcefully removed from the meeting by a police officer after he interrupted Baltimore County Schools Superintendent Dallas Dance during the question-and-answer portion of the forum.

The meeting apparently didn’t allow parents to stand up and ask questions or comment. Parents and other attendants were instead asked to write their questions on a piece of paper and officials would read them.

However, Small began speaking out against the district’s use of Common Core, prompting a security guard, who was also a police officer, to approach him and order him to leave. “Let’s go!” he said sternly. Maryland Parent Manhandled, Arrested While Speaking Out Against Common Core at Public Forum

When Small didn’t immediately comply, the officer began pulling his arm and pushing him towards the exit. Some audience members gasped at the cop’s use of force.

“Don’t stand for this,” the father said as he was dragged out. “You are sitting here like cattle! Is this America?”

I think we need to get rid of zero tolerance and minimum sentencing. Yes, sometimes the punishment can be too lenient but that is better then punishing the innocent or handing out a harsh sentence for a minor crime.

Sentencing is an entirely different issue from policing. Police are supposed to handle legitimate arrests; not act as judge and jury, and not make up their own laws to suit local overlords, as they do when arresting pro-life demonstrators but not abortion demonstrators, or in this case, a citizen asking questions at a public meeting.

Secondly, your idea about letting some criminals go rather than emprisoning some innocent people is done all the time, particularly when it comes to child sex abuse; and the criminals go on to murder or utterly ruin the lives of many more children. So it's not a solution. DNA testing and by-the-book evidence gathering gets us closer to a solution.

"Parents and other attendants were instead asked to write their questions on a piece of paper and officials would read them.”

Or not

You got that right. Ben Cardin did the same thing at the Town Hall meetings to announce his unquestioning support for Obamacare, and the audience was incensed and shouted anyway.

The sad thing about this current article is the other people sitting there without protest when this young father was dragged away. Horrible.

Something my neighbors and I are starting is a community after-school teaching program where Every Wednesday a volunteer parent puts a 90 minute session in place, to teach more direct skill based lessons. (I plan on teaching electrical concepts and computers) but it can be even simpler start a story book reading, but do something! It matters not your age or even abilities we all have something to teach and wisdom to share.

This is a good idea. I also think churches should have after-school programs to teach rigorously about the history of Christianity in the world and the good that it has done. When I was a kid, the Jewish kids all went to Hebrew school after regular school to prepare for their bar- or bat mitzvahs. I don't see why Chrisitians shouldn't organize the same way for the benefit of their own now-"minority" kids.

it seems logical to me that a private security guard who happens to be a policeman, too, shouldn’t be protected under laws governing policemen while he is being paid as a private security guard.

Lawsuit!

While this works for the individual, and absolutely Abeca is an outstanding program, it doesn’t solve the broader society issue I’m talking about. We all have to live on this rock and if we keep growing thugs or robot lemmings, we are going to need a lot more bullets... Because they will eventually tip over the edge and legislate us to death literally.
Or we are going to have to become producers of Purple Drank... To help keep them from killing everyone.

Public schools should not exist. Trying to make them better is a wasted effort and is really fighting the wrong battle.

But they DO exist and don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon! So letting them continue on, pumping out mindless lemmings is a better choice?

When did fighting for what is right become a bother?

Tyranny can’t stay In the light, it retreats to easier fodder, tyranny must be fought and rooted at the core, there is no middle ground here folks, there is no “write this off” we either win, or evil wins. What is required is bringing it to light, and uncovering the nature of the illusion,

***********
There are good points in your argument. Think about Obamacare and how it has/will impact lives. It is important to stand for what is morally right.

And for those who say it is not worth fighting for or to homeschool....recall the family from Germany who wanted to homeschool their children and were attacked by the DOJ. Last I knew they were being deported. This is what Holder has in mind for homeschoolers.

You can’t run or hide, and as light-bulb said:
there is no “write this off” we either win, or evil wins.

The system is corroded and beyond repair.

A hard reset is in order, and it is coming. The bankrupt establishment agenda is unsustainable.

Position your family as best you can.

"The sad thing about this current article is the other people sitting there without protest when this young father was dragged away. Horrible..."

I don't know how dumbed down the sheep can be! I was at a school board meeting years ago where they were discussing something extremely contentious. The overly power hungry and hyper liberal president tried to shut up one of the impassioned parents during their questioning of the board. Almost the entire room of parents erupted in "LET HIM SPEAK! LET HIM SPEAK!" It is one of my fondest memories now of the difference a community of parents can make when they stand together against the bullying of the Public Education system. United we stand, divided we fall.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."~~Samuel Adams

Amen to that... but I think people are so scared now that the NSA will help corrupt officials target them. I remember in school in the 60s laughing at the Soviet Union, with its government oppression, propaganda news media, retaliation against dissent, absolute control of children's education, horrifying police actions... never in my life would I have imagined it could happen here.

Perhaps, but as someone else mentioned that is going to take a hard reset, and frankly I’m not sure there are enough of us left to win a war. I used to be damn proud of my Air Force, now I think of it as a spawning ground of immorality and thugs. It’s very similar to what I see from the public schools. I know many of us still have respect for the military but I would advise you to look closely, it’s not what it once was.

So fair enough... if the foundation of our next generations of citizens is a battle not worth fighting where should we focus?

Or are we just going to batten down the hatches squirrel away provisions and hope that when the SHTF it isn’t us and ours to die first. Frankly most of us aren’t even willing to get dirty hands now, exactly what are we waiting for? Masses of people being led away? How about our children being taken away from us for home-schooling? How about our savings being leveraged and stolen by the governments push for inflation? What exactly will it take? Someone else standing up? Will we stand up with our brothers and sisters or wait for something just a little more?
To be fair these are questions I ask of myself.

Here is the mild version of our future.

Soon parents that speak out against this kind of vile despoiling of their children will be just dragged off unconsious and never seen again.

The problem with the “write it and we’ll read it” is that the government officials can refuse to read questions they don’t like, in essence silencing debate without appearing to do so.
