Danbury volunteer firefighter mauled by dogs (NC. Labrador Retrievers)

STOKES COUNTY, N.C. — An assistant fire chief with the Danbury Volunteer Fire Department is in intensive care at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after being mauled by two Labrador retrievers Wednesday night.

Officials say Bobby Jones was attacked while hunting off Hall Road, where he was bitten more than 40 times.

It’s believed he was wearing a scent to hide human scent while hunting, which may have set the Labradors off.

The dogs were up to date on their shots, their owners said, and have been surrendered to animal control.

Firefighters are planning a fundraiser tonight to help Jones’ family. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the Danbury Volunteer Fire Department, 102 Old Church Road in Danbury.

Yeah, the views of the VA Blue Ridge are excellent there. I like to park at the intersection of Stony something road and soak it in for a few min. whenever I’m up that way.

Stoney Ridge. There’s a little fieldstone Baptist Church down the hill on that road.

I owned a black lab that went 70-80 pounds.

If a person was not careful, they could be knocked to the ground as my dog attempted to lick their face off. I am having trouble getting my mind around the concept of an attack lab.

Somebody should do a lab report and find out if someone didn’t switch scents on him and he smelled more like a t-bone steak. Thus the reason for the attack.

Here’s my shocked face. ——>

A guy we know has a pack of Labs running loose on his property.

Hubby blows the horn until somebody comes out and corrals them.

Nasty critters.

How odd.

I can blithely reach into the crushing maw of a hundred pound Euro Dobe and reclaim even the juiciest gobbet of raw, bloody meat with utterly no protest from him.

'Course I've been doing that randomly since he was a 6 pound baby.

photo thIMG_0774copy.jpg Labs know what to do with rattlesnakes. This one killed a bunch until he just disappeared one day.

It can happen. Never make the mistake of assuming any given dog is nice because it’s a Lab, or Golden, or whatever “they never hurt anyone!!!” type.

Our neighbors had litter-brother Labs. The chocolate was the stereotypical kind, dopey and lovable. The yellow was absolutely dog-aggressive and more serious. He would bark when people rang OUR doorbell across the street! (Our Shepherd usually was clueless and didn’t care anyway.)

It amazes you because nobody reports non-Pit attacks.

They don’t fit the prescribed narrative.

Pretty hard to paint Labs as “dangerous, vicious killing machines” but guess what.

That’s just two pages of hits.

There’s lots more.

Now you know why the Pit people are outraged.

There’s blatant, intentional media bias, plain and simple, which, of course, we -hate- here on FR.

Not that the Pit haters will care but in the case of Labs, just like Pits, it ALL boils down to bad breeders/owners.

Labs are popular and cheap thanks to puppy mills.

There are genetic/health disorders *and* behavioral issues thanks to horrendous whelping conditions and no early socialization.

No, I did not see that. Have not seen “The Dog Whisperer” in a long time. Is it back on? I will have to do a search and DVR.

We used to watch Victoria Stillwell’s show until some producer, who apparently was an 8th-grade girl, decided that part of Victoria’s mission in each episode was to deal with the interpersonal dynamics of each family she worked with.

We stopped DVRing with the 2nd episode of the then new series, in which she had the couple take tango lessons to bring them closer.

I have a yellow lab who is very food focused, but I cannot see him biting anyone ever.

I'm not sure but I think it is over.

A number of years ago I watched it some when NatGeo was a preview channel on Dish. But mainly more recently on You Tube.

Same way with the show ManTracker that aired on the Science Channel.

I know what you mean about labs. I never owned one but in my younger days I did a lot of hunting and was exposed to a lot of retrievers and pointers. They're just smarter dogs.

I’ll also mention, if you didn’t notice it, in reply 21 there is a link to a short 3 minute video of the lab biting him. And in the side bar menu, there is a link entire segment.

That’s what I thought, too. Our lab had the gentlest mouth I’ve ever experienced in a dog. He got his paw pad impaled on a sharp point of the backyard cyclone fence, and while I released him, he mouthed my hands several times but not one hint of a bite. I wonder what actually happened.

I had a boxer like that. He loved to play tug of war, would get red-eyed crazy, but the second he got a finger or hand, it was all gums and kisses.
