That’s what I thought, too. Our lab had the gentlest mouth I’ve ever experienced in a dog. He got his paw pad impaled on a sharp point of the backyard cyclone fence, and while I released him, he mouthed my hands several times but not one hint of a bite. I wonder what actually happened.
I had a boxer like that. He loved to play tug of war, would get red-eyed crazy, but the second he got a finger or hand, it was all gums and kisses.
” I wonder what actually happened.”
The only other witnesses can’t speak and will undoubtedly die for their crime.
Was it public land?
The dog owner’s land?
A place the dogs commonly roamed?
If somebody came wandering through my yard with a gun when the Dobes are out, I could not guarantee them safe passage, especially if I was not there.
This is -their- yard and they’re serious about that.
The Labs may have felt the same way about wherever the guy was hunting.
*If* he did something to provoke this, you can’t bet all you have he’s not going to confess that...although I would, were it me, in fairness to the dogs.
