I shop at Buy More, and take my computer to the Nerd Herd for service.
I don’t want to purchase a cyberpig in a poke.
Ah, the difference between liberals and conservatives. I don’t like Best Buy either. The staff and products turn over every 6 months or so and so you really can’t get good support for things you buy there. Having said that, if others like Best Buy, more power to them. The Libs at Slate think that because they don’t like something, that it should be gone — they want to dictate what everyone can do.
Dear Slate: BB’s customers will decide, not some sissy who “writes” for your blog.
SLATE authors are bunch of metrosexual wankers.
I shop at Best Buy because I can see and compare items and ask questions. If they try to up-sell me, good for them. I say “no thank you” and that’s it. If people don’t like it, they won’t shop there - end of story. I think Matthew Yglesias “needs to die.”
Where just-in-time counts in today's computer world, and my business depends on it, I buy two computers at a time so that when one goes and is sent out by Best Buy for 10 days to 2 weeks, I just pop the hard drive in the other identical one and keep working.
The comps I purchase usually give out in advance of the 3-yr service plan so I get a brand new one typically a 2.5 years free of charge.
FReegards!
Best Buy? Screw’em! They lied to me for 2 or 3 weeks, then f’ed me on a rebate 12 years ago. Haven’t went there since. I’m surprised anyone does.
Leftists want to destroy successful businesses, in the name of “leveling the playing field”.
Since BB is now successful, they are therefore an eeeeeevil capitalist group and must therefore die.
OTOH, I recall BB caving to the Muslims on PC grounds, so this should insulate them from Leftist attention. Perhaps not...
I vote for wambulance.
Sales people who do not upsell/addons have limited lifespans as salespeople.
Best Buy is in a very tough market. Look at their former competitors: Circuit City, Electric Avenue, Comp-USA, etc.
Who competes with them now? Fry’s? H.H. Gregg? Tweeter? None of these stores has broken out, and they all have their issues.
What did we have in the old days? Radio Shack, a very overpriced Ma and Pa, or a Lafayette if you were lucky.
No one is going to make a better Best Buy, because there is no money in it.
I love Best Buy. They’ve been fabulous. There are several HIGHLY successful IT professionals in the family and they shop there too.
Just bougt a new cell phone last week at best buy. For the $12.00 extra I paid they did the registration and set up for me.
lol.
I have a few HDMI cables still in the package. ... should I Craigslist?
I concur with Slate. BB is a terrible store, the selection is crap, the employees are idiots, they’re addicted to over priced cables. It’s a rare thing that will get me there, they need to have a special deal going I can’t get elsewhere. Too many trips in a row they didn’t have what I was looking for even though the website said they did, then I’d go to Target with a completely different list and find everything BB didn’t have. Now I go to Target first, BB is unnecessary.
Do they have a slim collection of electronics and parts, are their stores poorly stocked and most of their employees clueless? Yes, yes and yes.
They may get worst and die, they may improve and thrive or they may remain mediocre.
It would be unfortunate if the first happened because there is really no one waiting in the wings to take their place and they do fill a niche.
I like best buy. I like trying everything out and don’t like getting any electronics in the mail. I would rather pay the money.
I don’t often agree with Slate, but they have Best Buy nailed.
Useless store! Stopped going there the day I went to check out and the always slowwwwwwwwwwww checkout clerk yells “ZipCowwwwwde!!!!” in my face, as if I was in an unemployment line or the DMV. Not hello sir, or “find everything okay?” ZIPCODE!!!!!
