Poll: Republican voters have embraced libertarian values
United Liberty ^ | 9/12/13 | Jason Pye

The libertarian philosophy is taking the Republican Party by storm, according to a poll conducted by FreedomWorks, a DC-based grassroots service center with over 6 million members.

With Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) and many other liberty-minded politicians gaining influence, libertarianism has generated new interest inside the Republican Party, much to the chagrin of the GOP's political establishment....

"FreedomWorks' poll shows that 42 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of the word ‘libertarian,' and only 10 percent don't know the word, compared to 27 percent who don't know nationally," they added.

And the term "libertarian" may still turn off some Republican voters, the basic message of the philosophy earns significant favor. The poll found that 68% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents agree with the statement that "individuals should be free to do as they like as long as they don't hurt others, and that the government should keep out of people's day-to-day lives."

What's more, an eye-popping 78% of Republicans consider themselves to be "fiscally conservative, but socially moderate," which is a significant finding given the debate in the GOP on social issues.

Looking outside of just the Republican box, the poll found that 66% of respondents consider themselves to fiscally conservative and socially moderate.

These numbers show that the libertarian message is appealing, not only to Republican voters, but also to all Americans; further advancing the case for conservative-libertarian fusionism as a way to promote free market ideals, limited government, and personal liberty....

You know, collects tariffs and stops illegal entries and such. Well, they’re supposed to.....

liberdopians want open borders and no tariffs.

They’d be welcoming invaders and handing them voter registrations.

Well I don’t know anyone that is for all that. Except maybe the Marxists currently in power. But I will note that the GOP has not done much about much of you list and they held power for 12 years Reagan/Bush and 8 year with W. So if you think the GOP is the answer you are fooling yourself. You might be surprised to discover that a lot of little l libertarians are mostly on your side. The GOP talks a good game but it’s all BS to get elected then it “party time in DC”. Just look at Rubio on immigration, typical lying scum bag politician.

Larry Elder identifies himself as a Republitarian.

Beats being a RINO, that’s for sure.

Admit it. You are all for a big, intrusive government tasked with enforcing morality.

Take that up on the state level please and let Americans vote with their feet.

The libertarian position is more open borders than Rubio or any republican’s

The answer isn’t to move left, it is to move right, to become more conservative, not to give up and become libertarian.

“One thing I have noticed about social conservatives is that they are fine with big government and big spending as long as gov is enforcing their views and spending on stuff they like. That drives Constitutional conservatives like me nuts!”

Very well said. That’s my issue as well. They don’t mind an intrusive nanny state as long as it’s got the boot on the neck of people they feel desrve it.
Not much different than a liberal argument really.

Union members want to stick it to the company, yet companies and unions financially support Democrats.

It’s called forming coalitions. It’s messy, but its how elections are won and agendas are advanced.

This is like trying to teach Thermodynamics to a Bantu tribe.

That would be the LP, not the libertarian or classical liberal position.

For a guy who claims to not be a social liberal libertarian, your posts sure seem to say the opposite.

The military dropped discriminating against homosexuals, and against gay married couples in immigration, and said that they will recognize states gay marriages.

You won that victory against “enforcing morality”.

The libertarian position.

I believe if you check, there’s been far more support for that from so-called Republicans in power than libertarians or Libertarians. My agenda and those of little-l libertarians I know and correspond with does not begin with promoting military homosexuality, random immigration, pulling back and disbanding the military and the State Department, etc.

Or do you also believe as, say, Lindsey Graham does? Amnesty for all, gay marriage should be promoted, etc., etc.? After all, he’s a prominent Republican leader, so he exemplifies all your beliefs, right?

They don’t mind an intrusive nanny state as long as it’s got the boot on the neck of people they feel desrve it.

Like protecting marriage, keeping homosexuals out of the military, fighting abortion, restricting immigration and traditional American conservatism and culture?

The anti-conservative vitriol is starting to flow.

“Even Lyn Nofziger said he didn’t hang out with the Reagans because they didn’t drink enough for his liking.”

Most people know and at least respect Reagan for his abilities.

On the other hand, most people will say, “Lyn Nofziger? Who’s that? Oh, who cares.”

It is the libertarian position, the party is libertarians putting libertarianism into political language and an actual platform.

Confronting the issues of the day.

So he is libertarian on those issues.

I have never been a republican.
