*A trustee for the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona wants to honor the memory of Trayvon Martin by naming an asteroid after him.
William Lowell Putnam III told the Arizona Daily Sun he wants to place Martins name on one of the hundreds of asteroids discovered by the Lowell observatory in 2000.
This is what the proposed citation for 2000 TM61 reads: Named in memory of Trayvon Martin (1995-2012), a student at Dr. Michael M. Krop High School in Miami, Florida. Unarmed, he was fatally shot in Sanford, Florida, during an altercation with the neighborhood watch coordinator.
Putman had pushed for the asteroid name last year, but the Minor Planet Center turned down the premature submission. Now that the trial has ended and George Zimmerman was acquitted, he is trying again.
Putnam said he wanted to find some way to honor Martins legacy.
As I see it, the social fairness showed to Trayvon Martin was very sadly lacking, he said. Inasmuch as I am the sole trustee of an institution which has some naming privileges, I want to do my share to see that this lad is remembered in an appropriate manner.

A Big Gulp of Purple Drank.
How about naming a black hole in his honor.
An asteroid wearing a hoodie?
Or a hemorrhoid.
You stole my reply from yesterday - but it’s still appropriate.
Well they are destructive when they land on earth. Seems appropriate to me.
More like ASSteroid...
Just don't get him started about Pluto ...
What legacy? A history of crime and attempted murder?
William PutZnam.
An old white liberal who thinks genuflecting to black thugs will give him some sort of “cred” when the SHTF (a.k.a. “kill me last”).
How about a self defense weapon named the Trayvon-X.
Another bleeding heart MORON on parade.
Out there in the boondocks with his telescope and stash of food, he’ll be picked off like a rabbit at Philmont.
A crack den?
Oh, I thought they were changing the name of those
things to Trayvonoids. Nasty, irritating buggers!
It doesn’t get any more racist than this, does it? Take something that looks like a bowel movement floating in space, and name it after Trayvon Martin? WTF?
Did he say asteroid or assh-le?
This nation is suffering from a terrible illness. I think it’s called rectitis.
The Smithsonian wants the thug’s hoodie.
