The Syrian government has dispatched reinforcements including tanks and armored personnel carriers to a predominantly Christian village north of Damascus where rebels have clashed with regime troops this week, a monitoring group said Friday.
Opposition fighters led by an al-Qaida-linked rebel faction attacked the mountainside sanctuary of Maaloula on Wednesday, and briefly entered the village a day later before pulling out in the evening. The assault has spotlighted fears among Syria’s religious minorities about the prominent role of Islamic extremists in the rebel ranks fighting to overthrow President Bashar Assad’s regime.

Ayup. Assad, as a member of an ethnic minority in his nation as well as a religious minority, has maintained control of the years by enlisting the aid of other minorities in Syria - the Christians, the Druze, other Alawites, etc.
The minority groups in Syria have been pretty solidly backing Assad, as they realize that an ultra-religious Sunni majority composed of competing ethnic groups will quickly send the country into a death spiral of ethnic cleansing and religious persecution. An even creepier prospect since the terrorist-backed rebel groups and the foreign terrorist organizations fighting in Syria today will likely gain access to the regime’s military hardware after a successful Libyan style overthrow.
But, hey, the Obama administration considers chemical weapons in the hands of international jihadists a feature and not a bug.
I expect Russian troops to be there guarding Christian villages before too long.
It would be a master stroke for Putin if he does it.

I wish the American people, like us, would have been keeping up with news (for at least the past decade).. No matter how corrupt/politicized Assad or his father was.. they both were the force keeping the peace between moslems and non- (especially Christian) in Syria.
How can it NOT be obvious that the new is telling the situation the opposite of what it is?
The ‘rebels’ ARE Al Qaeda...
Islam is a political, legal and economic system masquerading as "the religion of peace". Their "holy book" (so called) describes 3 ways for muslims to deal with NON-muslims: They may convert to islam, if useful to islam (easy to imagine when it is remembered that most muslims are stuck in the 12th century!), non-muslims may be allowed to live in "dhimmitude", a system under which infidels are heavily taxed in a form of servitude or, finally, they are to be KILLED, frequently in bizarre, grotesque and painful ways.
Before some PC/diversity/tolerance TROLL comes back with “Yeah, but Christians have also done horrible things”, I remind you that brutal acts such as this ARE NOT authorized or codified in the Christian New Testament. Unlike the Koran, It urges us simply to share Christ with non-believers, NOT SHOVE HIS CROSS DOWN THEIR THROATS AFTER MURDERING THEM. Those “Christians” who do such things do so in DEFIANCE of His instructions to us!
If there ARE any muslims out there who reject the insane and murderous commands of their so-called "prophet", they'd better speak out -- NOW -- before these psychotic criminals who claim to share their "belief system" (I can't bring myself to call it a "faith") get all of them killed in what is shaping up to be a confrontation that will make the Crusades look like a day at the beach.
If your jury is still out on the subject of "tolerance" and "diversity" vis-a-vis islam, this might cause it to reach a verdict! It might also cause you to ask why obama and his criminal enterprise is aiding and abetting these radical beasts over the more secular and Christian friendly (or at least neutral) Assad regime?
I can't prove it, but the way they trussed her up on that bed screams that she was almost certainly brutally gang raped before they killed her! These people are SAVAGES!!! Bet you haven't seen any detailed reports of this sort of thing on the networks or the NYT.
