I’m sure you can forgive me for the misunderstanding considering that there are heavily Hispanic neighborhoods along there, especially Dominicans, especially Washington Heights, the neighborhood right by the GWB. This was a no-go zone for the NYPD for a while after one particularly playful resident aimed a paint can at a cop’s head from the high roof of an apartment building.
In the Chris Lane murder one of his attackers is Black with a history of racist statements and violence. The other two are both boys of mixed ancestry. News outlets have gone out of their way to note that one of them comes from a "White family," and the other is "White." Well, actually, no. The former's sperm donor father is Black/Black and predictably no longer on the scene, and his stepfather is a Latino. The latter is clearly a person of mixed race, and is not "White."
A number of excusers have tried to point out that even if the shooter did say he hated White People, the three were on their way to kill someone else after they killed Lane, and the next victim was going to be Black.
How does this excuse anything, exactly?
The point is that Black males are killing lots of people [and most of the people they're killing are Black.] The killing isn't excused on the basis of who the victims are. Talk about not "being valued." Between the night Trayvon Martin died and George Zimmerman was acquitted, over 11,000 Blacks were murdered, almost all of them by other Blacks.
The media isn't doing anyone -- least of all the people who live in these neighborhoods -- any favors by failing to give the facts.

As to racial composition, the CIA factbook says: mixed 73%, white 16%, black 11%. So in any public version of the police log, I would guess the news media would identify about 16% of perpetrators as white and 84% as "teens." As victims, the media would identify 16% as "victims" and 84% as "black victims of hate crimes." Finally, in confrontations involving two Dominicans, I would predict the media would identify the victims as black, and the perpetrators as "white Hispanics" about 73% of the time. Unless both were black, in which case there would be no story at all.

Most of the immigrants from the Dominican Republic I met would be called ‘chocolato’ by most of the Puerto Ricans I’ve met in New York. Not sure about the Spanish spelling.
