A Montana judge said he regrets controversial comments he made when he sentenced a former teacher to only 30 days in jail for raping a 14-year-girl who later committed suicide.
District Judge G. Todd Baugh has been the subject of widespread backlash after he said in a Billings, Mont., court that the victim was "older than her chronological age" and "as much control of the situation" as the teacher, according to the Billings Gazette.
"I don't know what I was thinking or trying to say," Baugh later told The Billings Gazette. "It was just stupid and wrong."
Though he voiced regret for his choice of words, however, he stood by the 30-day jail sentence.
Stacey Rambold, 54, a former teacher at Billings Senior High School, was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison with all but 31 days suspended and received credit for one day served.

One has to wonder if the Judge isn’t “Protecting one of their own”...
The whole POINT of statutory rape laws, is to make it illegal for adults to have sexual relations with children, WITHOUT REGARD TO whether she was leading him on, or even actively demanding sex from him.
It doesn't matter if she actively tried to rape HIM. He is legally obligated to resist having sex with minors.
Crazy old coot didn’t even follow the guidelines.
Sorry guys out there but with ‘justice’ like this it is hard not to think that a lot of fellows somehow think that rape victims basically are asking for it.
At least get your history right
‘Charles Lynch (1736-1796) was a Virginia planter, politician, and American revolutionary who headed an irregular court in Virginia to punish Loyalist supporters of the British during the American Revolutionary War. The terms “lynching” and “lynch law” are said by some to derive from his name, but there is no evidence for this.’
If you are going to use stories to tell history you ought to be sure you have them straight
Yes, I know that. Like I said, regardless of what she was doing he should have been an adult who could control himself.
The rule of the “Three-Ss” applies here. As soon as he is out of jail...
He deserves to be chastised for that comment, and he deserves 20 years for the sentence he handed down.
This problem is not the Pediphile. It’s the incompetent Judge that decided his morals are more important than the rule of law.
The Judge is the one who deserves a life sentence.
got that right
Oh puhleeeze. “How do we know she wasn’t leading him on’????? Get a grip he is 40 n years her senior and was her teacher. DECENCY says keep your pants zipped. That is so disgusting it is even beyond words that are civilized
And for your information (just in case your Mama didn’t tell you) a 14 year old is NOT a woman
they use to horse whip jack holes like this
I was thinking of some other judge. In any event, a nicer reply would have been more appropriate. There was no need to get snide about it.
Wasn;t being snide. Sorry you have such thin skin
Please tell me then how your statement isn't a snide remark.
I gave you information. If you think that pointing out when someone is factually incorrect is snide so be it
“This problem is not the Pediphile. Its the incompetent Judge that decided his morals are more important than the rule of law.”
Yeah, I don’t know about that. The judge didn’t make the decision in a vacuum. He is also a problem, but the pedophile skated on punishment for rape of a child. That doesn’t get a pass in my book, no matter what the judge did.
I didn’t mean it to come across that way. The Pedophile should be neutered then hanged IMHO.
However, the Judge only reinforces this behavior with blaming the 14 year old kid. I don’t care how big her boobs are or what she offered. Even a well balanced 14 year old doesn’t think things thru like an Adult.
It doesn’t matter one bit. She was a 14 year old kid.
