A Montana judge said he regrets controversial comments he made when he sentenced a former teacher to only 30 days in jail for raping a 14-year-girl who later committed suicide.
District Judge G. Todd Baugh has been the subject of widespread backlash after he said in a Billings, Mont., court that the victim was "older than her chronological age" and "as much control of the situation" as the teacher, according to the Billings Gazette.
"I don't know what I was thinking or trying to say," Baugh later told The Billings Gazette. "It was just stupid and wrong."
Though he voiced regret for his choice of words, however, he stood by the 30-day jail sentence.
Stacey Rambold, 54, a former teacher at Billings Senior High School, was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison with all but 31 days suspended and received credit for one day served.

If it was his son, I wonder if the same sentence would have been given
He’s “sorry” because he’s being criticized for it. Obviously he wasn’t sorry when he said it. As a judge he knows you have to be precise and say what you mean.
I should have also said WTF was he thinking with that ridiculous sentence? In MT that guy better run and hide because I’m thinking he might get some old fashioned justice.
I’ve heard the propaganda over and over that girls mature faster than boys.
Maybe it’s only in a physical sense and not a mental one.
DOH!
Now I’m in trouble!
Well in history there was a Judge Lynch ... sentenced his own son to hang. Hence the term ....
Someone should tell the jerk that the reduction of the sentence was wrong. Who cares what he said.
I was stunned when I read about this. The 50 yr old teacher rapes a 14 year old, who later kills herself, and gets 30 days??? The sentence was actually a little longer, but the judge counted the time served (awaiting trial) and commuted the rest.
Can a judge’s sentence be appealed by the victim’s family?
This man is an arrogant, unaccountable elitist. The Judiciary has far too much power. The written laws mean little. Judges impose their personal views and prejudices in virtually every case.
That doesn’t excuse having a 50 year old teacher (whom she probably thought she could trust) rape her. She appears to have been somewhat emotionally disturbed and did, in fact, kill herself after this.
But you’re saying this is ok, teach just couldn’t help himself?
Here’s hoping Rambold’s 30 days are “life changing,” and his last.
From Roman Polanski, to Miley Cyrus, to this guy, we are getting a glimpse of what the perverts intend will be the next “civil rights movement of our time” and it bodes ill for children.
Had it been my daughter?
I might be the one on trial.
I’m just commenting on his comment that irked the public. What the teacher did allows no excuses but keep in mind you do have to look at both sides of the equation.
If she was emotionally disturbed how do we know she wasn’t leading him on?
Women aren’t as innocent as society makes them out to be.
Again, it’s no excuse on the teacher’s part.
The judge: Spoke like a pedophile that he no doubt is. “He/She’s older sexually than she really is”, is the statement NAMBLA and other pedophile organizations use to justify the sexual assault of children.
By moving to Impeach the Judge.
Too bad psychiatry is not a real science, instead of the huge scam it has always been, as it would be helpful to know what is causing this monumental disconnect in logic in today’s society. Maybe it could be prevented or at least fixed.
Liberalism is without a doubt, a mental disorder which renders one incapable of any logic and any rational thinking.
Unfortunately, they, because of their illness, have no clue how stupid they sound nor how stupid they act.
Let me translate for the “judge”: “Please, please, please don’t impeach me. I didn’t think anyone would notice my coddling of this despicable pedophile. My only regret is this came to the media’s attention. Well, that, and as a judge I can’t act on my own perverted desires”.
Let's roll.
