Communications intercept proves Syrian forces launched chemical attack
American Thinker ^ | August 28, 2013 | Rick Moran

As far as I'm concerned, this doesn't change the rationale for not bombing Syria one bit. All it does is set up a war crimes trial in the Hague in the future.

Foreign Policy:

Last Wednesday, in the hours after a horrific chemical attack east of Damascus, an official at the Syrian Ministry of Defense exchanged panicked phone calls with a leader of a chemical weapons unit, demanding answers for a nerve agent strike that killed more than 1,000 people. Those conversations were overheard by U.S. intelligence services, The Cable has learned. And that is the major reason why American officials now say they're certain that the attacks were the work of the Bashar al-Assad regime -- and why the U.S. military is likely to attack that regime in a matter of days.

But the intercept raises questions about culpability for the chemical massacre, even as it answers others: Was the attack on Aug. 21 the work of a Syrian officer overstepping his bounds? Or was the strike explicitly directed by senior members of the Assad regime? "It's unclear where control lies," one U.S. intelligence official told The Cable. "Is there just some sort of general blessing to use these things? Or are there explicit orders for each attack?"

Nor are U.S. analysts sure of the Syrian military's rationale for launching the strike -- if it had a rationale at all. Perhaps it was a lone general putting a long-standing battle plan in motion; perhaps it was a miscalculation by the Assad government. Whatever the reason, the attack has triggered worldwide outrage, and put the Obama administration on the brink of launching a strike of its own in Syria. "We don't know exactly why it happened," the intelligence official added. "We just know it was pretty fu**ing stupid."

Or maybe the leader of the military, upon hearing of a chemical weapons strike, responded naturally and called up the head of the chemical weapons division in a panic, asking what the heck was going on.

Notice the "proof" never involves a response -- they just reference that the question was asked. If you didn't know about the attacks, but confirmed the attacks happened, who's the first person you would ask?

Is this real? Is the BBC using a photo from 2003 of Iraq fatalities to support the Syrian propaganda?
How can the be authenticated?

Maybe this false flag operation worked by having an al-Qaeda sympathizer infiltrate the chemical weapons group and launh the attack from within the Syrian army.

Based on this snippet, it doesn't sound like the Assad regime authorized the chemical attack.

And it doesn't necessarily prove that the attack was conducted by Assad's forces...

Right answer if the intercepted phone call is true.

How is it these intercepts captured evidence of Assad’s use of chemicals
but these agencies were not able to capture ANYTHING about Bengazi?
Zip. Zero. Nada!
I don’t buy a word of it.

If they can’t tell the truth about Benghazi, why would they tell the truth here?

Yawn.

So transparent it’s really beyond boring by this point.

You knows if it’s true, and who cares, and who imagines that what they care really matters anymore anyway?

Not a bad epitaph, on second thought, for the entire President You Didn't Build That administration.

“Maybe this false flag operation worked by having an al-Qaeda sympathizer infiltrate the chemical weapons group and launh the attack from within the Syrian army.”

I just heard an interesting interview on John Batcherlor. The reporter said that there had been a meeting in Turkey of Syrian rebels and members of US and Turk intelligence in mid-August. The US guys told the Syrian rebels to wait because there was going to be a big change in a few days. A few days later, there's a chemical attack that the Obama administration immediately blames on Assad, even before the UN team has a chance to analyze their samples.

The intel intercepted by the Israelis and the US shows that the Assad leadership was very upset about this attack, which leads most normal people to conclude that this is a set-up.

Will a nuclear explosion wake America up, you think?

Nah, too many Americans don’t even know what or where Syria is.

You nailed it right out of the gate. The syrian military was receiving reports of a chemical attack and the radio traffic was their frantic attempt to get more information about it ...after the fact. This “proof” means squat. It’s like blaming ham radio operators for a cyclone.

Dateline 1:17 am Washington: This just in from CNN — Breaking news — Message from the president of the United States: Barack Husein Obama to president Assad of Syria: If you choose to use chemical weapons banned by international treaty on your own people, we will allow that, and God will judge you and punish you for those actions against innocent women and children. If you authorize and launch any weapon or action against our ally Israel or initiate any personal assault upon any American citizen anywhere in the world we will perform a nuclear glassing on your sand pile.
