President Obama is considering a strike on Syrian military targets involving sea-launched cruise missiles or possibly long-range bombers that would last no more than two days, according to senior administration officials and reported by Karen DeYoung and Anne Gearan of The Washington Post. Reuters reports that the West has told the opposition to expect a strike "within days."
The limited strike would seemingly be a response to allegations that the Syrian government used chemical weapons on its own people before dawn on August 21. Hundreds were killed and thousands suffered "neurotoxic symptoms."
The design of the potential attack implies sending a message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad without becoming entrenched in the 29-month conflict.
On Monday U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said: "There is a reason why President Obama has made clear to the Assad regime that this international norm [of chemical weapons use] cannot be violated without consequences."
The Post notes that the targets would not be directly related to Syrias chemical weapons arsenal and would probably include key government buildings in the capital and perhaps airfields.

If one side of this civil war is the Assad regime and its followers, and the other side is a mix of AQ, other terrorist groups, and a bunch of civilians who quite likely support the jihadists, why on earth would America be wasting money and risking lives to put a stop to this? I say let them have at it.
I was against Bush attacking Iraq. It made no sense to me. I didn’t see Hussein as the threat Bush said he was. After a time, I then ignored my thoughts since I trusted Bush. People on the other side are doing the same thing with Obama.
latest report is Israelis are updating their supplies.
I got my clockdown clock ready: 27 hours 38 seconds and counting. Got my Google Maps showing the precise locations of the Damascuse bombing strikes. And look I can also trace the movements of all US and NATO ships. Wait a minute, the US Navy is replacing the US flag with the rainbow flag on one US Naval aircraft carrier, and they’re painting a bullseye symbol on another aircraft carrier. Give me a moment, they’re painting some words, aha it says. “Assad please strike here.” But isn’t that Lindsey Graham I see on that ship? Isn’t he supposed to be in South Carolina right now? Well, the good news is that his re-election chances are slim if he stays on that aircraft carrier. That makes Assad a hero for South Carolina.
As a matter of fact, I just started reading Winston Churchill’s account of World War I about a week ago. It’s a large book so I may not finish it until after World War III ends. I just hope I don’t get nuked before I find out who wins WWI(Sarc). Nonetheless, the pre WWI era closely resembles our current era.
ROFL! The disconnect from reality is complete for the acolytes of the Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers.
Chode, could you photoshop a queen of diamonds in Jarretts hand?
This is a responsible and fair answer. Thanks. Very logical.
So far Obama is wasting all of our time and endangering half the planet...
His on again, off again threats are pathetic. By now, all military targets have been moved and stored.
During the 1979 Hostage Crisis, Pres. Carter begged for the Iranians to release the hostages. Then he threatened them, then he begged again, then he threatened them. It was a farce. Then we he did act, brave men died in the desert.
Obama is set to break Carter's “Pathetic” record for stupidity...and the world is passing their version of the popcorn...
“is considering” = “is golfing until those who wield power make a decision and call him off the course to announce it”
“And with any luck, Obamas bombs could kill a few kids and I could send the images all over the world and inflame the Muslims agains the U.S”
ASSAD: Come to think of it, let’t move as many kids to the chem weapons factory as possible. Get those cameras ready. Evil Americans — killing innocent children.
