Bob Filner announced his resignation Friday as San Diego’s 35th mayor following a tumultuous six weeks in which lurid allegations of repeated sexual misconduct against women crippled his ability to lead and turned him into a subject of national ridicule.
Filner will to step down on Aug. 30 as part of a deal approved Friday afternoon by the City Council on a 7-0 vote in closed session that limits his legal and financial exposure stemming from a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former aide.
In a dramatic appearance before the council, Filner was both apologetic yet defiant, lashing out against a "lynch-mob mentality."
"For my part in causing all of this, I offer a deep apology certainly to all the citizens of San Diego," he said after the vote.
He added: "To all the women I offended, I had no intention to be offensive."
But he questioned the claims against him.
"Not one allegation ...has even been independently verified or proven in court," he said. "I have never sexually harassed anyone."
He criticized the "media and their political agents" and said he "played into the hand" of those who wanted a "political coup."
He said he "provided ammunition for that."
Interestingly enough, absent the illicit drug-fuel, the Dhimmicrat party appears to attemtping to place Obamugabe into the position of “statesman of record”.

Minutes after it was announced he would leave office, Mayor Bob Filner apologized for the upheaval that has gripped San Diego but insisted that his downfall stems from a “lynch mob” mentality.
The “D” after his name allows him to associate with his AfAm consituents and assume their “struggle”.
Only a Dhimmicrat would conflate his perceived “lynching” with his black supports/voters. All the better, my pretty, to play the race card.

Figures he resigned only after extorting — I mean negotiating — for his attorneys’ fees and legal damages in defending his sex harassment lawsuits. Classless and self-serving to the end.

Most large cities are their own insurance company. When we did claims or law suits against many cities, it was always the city we were dealing with, not your average insurance company, which MEANS, the local citizens PAY the stinking money to the claimant when they win, not an insurance company.
The “for my part-—” line is the one that cracked me up. Was there a gang involved here? Maybe he should rat out his cohorts? His speech was pathetic, wherein he claimed to be the victim of a political witch hunt. Laughable. But pathetic.
South40, I was listening to KFMB today. They had a lawyer on to analyze all things Filner. Lawyer said he represented a new accuser who would file a lawsuit next week. Lawyer said his client was pissed over Filner’s exit speech and that helped her make the decision on whether to file/not to file. Client is a 30 plus year city employee.
It’s not going to be over for a while.
Thanks BAW. I’m sure this isn’t over as there will be lawsuits. It will be interesting to hear this latest victim’s claims.
