DETROIT Tim Tebow spent most of this Thursday night perhaps one of his fleeting few remaining as an NFL quarterback standing near the 50-yard line of the New England Patriots sideline.
When the Pats were on defense, he'd sometimes casually flip a ball around by himself. When they were on offense, he'd put his helmet on, ready to go in whether at QB or any other position the coaching staff might request.
"You just prepare yourself and be ready for whenever your number is called," Tebow said.
Tebow's number was never called.

Except Tebow’s “approach” has him with a career completion percentage under 50, and if this article is to be believed about to be cut from his final NFL team. It’s not nitpicking, the job is “hit the target”, that’s what QBs are paid to do.
LOL. I'm sure Pittsburgh fans remember his career differently.
I wasn't arguing for his play; truthfully, I have no dog in the race. I didn't see his pre-season play. If he's no good, I trust NE coaches will honestly assess that. I was just pointing out that the "5 of 19" stat could be misleading.
As a Pittsburgh fan that’s how I remember his career. He put together a good second half in that game, of course the Steelers’ entire front 7 was 2nd and 3rd strings by that point. We finished poorly, he finished well, then he went to NE and got crushed like a big wine grape, and hasn’t started another game since.
5 of 19 could be misleading, but given that it tracks with the rest of his career probably isn’t. He’s a nice guy, good team leader, puts a lot of effort, but his career stats are pretty sad. Not NFL QB material.
If you’re a Steeler fan, please tell me they’re cutting Ike Taylor this year. That guy is a liability!
What does Tim Tebow have that Peyton Manning doesn't?
A Bronco playoff victory!
2 more years on his deal. Ike runs hot and cold. He’s a pretty damn good cover guy most of the time, but then there’s the times he’s atrocious. No middle ground with Ike, he’ll either shutdown your to receiver, or help him catch the ball.
One playoff victory does not a quality NFL QB make.
What does Peyton Manning have that Tim Tebow doesn't?
A position as a starting QB in the NFL.
“a career completion percentage under 50”
Tebow is a paleo-conservative. A throwback to ‘40’s NFL football. The defense cannot figure out what he is trying to do and it throws them off balance.
One believes in completing passes and the other doesn't?
LOL
Tim Tebow is the 21st Cent. version of Joe Kapp. Kapp was an awful passer, too, yet what he did was win football games by virtue of his brute will and strength. All Tebow did the first time he was a consistent starter was take Denver to the playoffs and beat Pittsburgh.
Tebow is being punished for being a devout Christian, not because he can’t win football games.
Tebow is so tricky that his own teammates cannot figure him out!
Ding Ding Ding
We have a winner!!!
When it was announced that Manning was coming to Denver, I was hoping that Tebow would stay and learn from Elway and Manning.
A career completion percentage under 50 doesn’t happen because the defense is off balance, it happens because the QB is off balance, or has other fundamental problems reading the defense, predicting where the receivers will be, and/ or having a controlled and predictable throw.
He’s just not NFL QB material.
No, Tebow is being “punished” for hitting the ground more often than guys in him uniform. The job is complete passes, he doesn’t, end of story.
I'm a Chargers fan, so really did not want any of them in the AFC West. That said, Tebow has been given a raw deal. Elway (Piltdown Man's knuckle-dragging first cousin) hates Tebow and wasn't going to allow him to stay, no matter what.
Tebow is a reincarnation of Rex Grossman. Grossman is another Florida product who won games, too. He took the Bears to the Superbowl in 2007 during a season which saw him turning in as many games with a 100-plus QB rating as he had games with a sub-50 QB rating. The difference between the two is that Tebow turns in far more bad performances than good. That's why Grossman is still 3rd stringing it with D.C. while Tebow will be out of football in a couple of weeks.
Tebow is being punished for being a devout Christian, not because he cant win football games.
He's being judged by his skills as a quarterback, which aren't overly impressive.
