Former Vice President Al Gore said he believes some Republicans are growing weary about how many of their colleagues deny climate change.
A lot of Republicans have shared with me privately their growing discomfort with the statements of some of the deniers in their ranks. Even though theyre not yet willing to come back to advocate constructive policies, there is definitely movement, Gore said in a wide-ranging interview with The Washington Post
published Wednesday.
Many congressional Republicans are at odds with the scientific consensus that human activity, largely from burning fossil fuels that generate greenhouse gases, is driving climate change.
Gore, a vocal advocate on climate change, touched on a variety of issues regarding global warming, policy and renewable energy in the interview.
He also waxed philosophic on his Oscar-winning climate change documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."
The single most common criticism from skeptics when the film came out focused on the animation showing ocean water flowing into the World Trade Center memorial site. Skeptics called that demagogic and absurd and irresponsible. It happened last October 29th, years ahead of schedule, and the impact of that and many, many other similar events here and around the world has really begun to create a profound shift, Gore said.
Gore was referring to Hurricane Sandy, which devastated the East Coast including New York City last fall and raised the profile of climate change discourse on the national political scene.
While scientists generally avoid linking individual extreme weather events to climate change, they agree its effects such as warmer waters and higher sea levels can exacerbate storms.
Those types of events could prove a watershed moment in discussing climate change and its impact, Gore noted.
But theyre stronger now, he said of storms. The extreme events are more extreme. The hurricane scale used to be 1-5 and now theyre adding a 6. The fingerprint of man-made global warming is all over these storms and extreme weather events.

How’s that Al-Jazeera deal working for you, Al?
I sure am tired of Al Gore.
Al Gore is a first class piece of dog dung, lying CS’er.
Fixed it.
Al.....You lost. You’re a loser...and a perv. You lived your whole life off your father. Say bye now and just leave.
THIS climate change denier is getting really tired of “climate change LIARS”
“A lot of Republicans have shared with me privately their growing discomfort with the statements of some of the deniers in their ranks.”
By “a lot of Republicans” he means John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Chris Christie and Olympia Snowe.
Neatly avoiding the fact that the NAME was originally “Global Warming” and had to be changed to “Climate Change”.
Well, mr algorezeera— guess what Climate DOES change all the damn time. And man, puny man... has nothing to do with it. You and your spawn and your entire TN family have been hucksters all your life. Take your profits from the sale of SHARIA law al-gorezeera TV and just shut the hell up. Go get your shakra released from some unlucky masseuse you think wants to lay you. P@@s off in other words.
There are plenty of GOP’ers who “believe” in Global Warming, not because they are stupid and believe a lie, but because they are statists and it gives them and the Gov’t more power (John McCain, Lindsey Graham, to name 2).
When “Climate Change” is no longer “Global Warming”, we know you’re lying.
BTW. Hurricane season peak is Labor Day weekend through 9 or 10 Sept. Not a ONE off Africa coast yet, for that travel distance to provide a serious threat. Just sayin’. One should, at least happen. La Nina— they got answers for everything except the carbon credits commodity market Golden Slacks set up for algore... and then quietly closed down.
That commodity being specifically designed for the greatest owners of carbon-— the oil holders. Deo Vindice.
The truth is that many Repubs are so eager to get along with the Rats that they will gladly abandon and principles they hight have.
Awesome! Same hurricanes, more numbers!
RINOs and liberal republicans don’t count, Algore.
Yes, I’m super cereal.
I thought it was "series".....
Algore is a tubby dummy, and people who follow him down the road of increasing climate unpredictability are unpredictably unstable. The boy lies more than the temperature changes, and his science reflects his academics, or lack thereof. No respectable Republican, no matter how RINOesque, should be ashamed of any association with Algore.
