Over the course of just two days, the Washington Post pounded its readers with 12 "birther" stories aimed at Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Headlines included, "Can Ted Cruz Run for President?", "Canadian Born Ted Cruz Releases Birth Certificate Amid Queries if He's Eligible for Presidential Run," "Ted Cruz: I am Not a Canadian," and "No, Ted Cruz "Birthers" are Not the Same as Obama Birthers":
**snip
Though there is no legal question as to Cruz's eligibility to run for president (Cruz was born an American citizen), the Post has spent the last 48 hours bedeviling the Hispanic senator with articles obviously meant to put him on defense and plant a seed of doubt in voters' minds.
The timing of the Post's assault is also curious. By accident or design, it dovetails perfectly with a widely criticized Daily Beast hit-piece on Cruz that also focuses on and questions Cruz's past and background.
Since being elected to the United States Senate in 2012, Cruz has emerged as one of the most vocal critics of President Obama and his signature healthcare plan, ObamaCare. The Washington Post has endorsed Obama for president, and frequently used its news and editorial pages to defend ObamaCare.
In the past, the Post has also launched crusades to destroy the careers of many Republicans, including US Senate candidate George Allen, presidential candidate Mitt Romney, presidential candidate Rick Perry, and current gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli -- among others. The Post's modus operandi is similar to what Cruz is currently facing: The Post floods the zone with stories critical of the Republican in an effort to undermine their candidacy through character assassination.

By law passed by Congress, and Congress has the constitutional authority to decide these things under Art I, Sect 8, Ted Cruz is a citizen at birth.
The use of the term “natural born citizen” at the time of the Constitution included those born overseas to US citizens.
Courtesy ping due to my link to your previous post.
Wow, think of the possibilities.
So then if Outer Mongolia, New Guinea or Iran give citizenship to American citizens at birth, we would have no eligible candidates?
I don't think you've hit upon a dis-qualifier.
Nor do I think being born on foreign soil is a dis-qualifier as it has been well documented here that the founders thought that being born on foreign soil wan't a dis-qualifier.
The Washington Post cares about whose ox is being gored... one standard for their favorites - one for the rest of us.
Think of it as the policy that brought down an industry...
BUT if Obama can be President, so could Putin....................... Yeah, now you’re talking! At least we’ll get a LEADER!
If you want to help the Compost destroy a great candidate, go ahead, just don't ask the rest of us to follow......
Obama’s father was not a citizen of Kenya when he was born or when Obama was born? What country then?
TEd Cruz’s father was a Cuban citizen when he was born in Canada or when Ted Cruz was born in Canada?
BUMP to your post.......
You wilfully don’t get it. It will be made to be huge by the enemy. And the one who destroys is not I, for pointing out flaws, it’s you for supporting a flawed candidate.
What you have written is nonsense, and argued like a dem. How many people who could be candidates are born in those remote regions- and how many millions nbcs are born here -
Honest decent person, good looking, confident, beautiful wife, beautiful children, intelligent, hard working and successful. It has been my experience that some people just absolutely hate people like that with a passion. I think that is the reason for most of the hatred of Sarah Palin as well.
Ted Cruz is a citizen at birth.

Correct
I dont think anyone in these threads have refuted that fact...
but Ted is NOT an NBC
as FReepers said about Obama “He could have been born in the Lincoln bedrtoom, he would still not be NBC”
Why ???
Bercause his father was not an American when he was born..
We have the same situation with both men
First scenerio
Obama born overseas, American mother, foreign father..
Ted Cruz born overseas American mother foreign father..
If we say Obama was born in Hawaii on US soil there he is more eligible than Ted Cruz..
Second scenerio
Obama born on US soil American mother foreign father
Ted Cruz born overseas American mother foreign father
but then there is that 19+ thingy
Third scenerio
Obama born overseas underage American mother foreign father
Ted Cruz born overseas age OK American mother foreign father
some FReeper tried to interject the marital status OK let’s do that
Fourth scenerio
Obama born overseas unmarried underaged American mother no father recognized thus totally American
Ted Cruz born overseas married age OK American mother foreign father passing on his nationality also due to legal marriage to mother
Fifth scenerio
Obama born on US soil unmarried age no important American mother no father recognized thus totally American and in his own right
Ted Cruz born overseas married age OK American mother foreign father passing on his nationality also due to legal marriage to mother
Notes:
1. Either we continue to insist on NBC and thus Ted Cruz is disqualifed...
2. or we make room for Ted Cruz thus making Obama a legitimate POTUS
3. If we open that door then any illegal alien anchor baby who just happens to be born here on US soil to illegal aliens with no under the jurisdiction of or loyalty or love for our country can be POTUS
and THAT dear FReepers is something I will not accept..
Right now any illegal alien has more eligibility to be your president than Ted Cruz who was born of an NBC mother if thats what you want..
PING to Liz
I am concerned that the entire media is attacking Ted Cruz. He is an exceptional conservative leader, and now he is distracted by these attacks.
I’m sure that you agree he is qualified to be Senator, or a Governor, or a Supreme Court justice. He was a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School, a clerk for conservative chief justice, William Rehnquist, and a solicitor general of the state of Texas.
The media is getting us in a feeding frenzy tearing down a great conservative leader who hasn’t even said he’s running for the presidency, and in any case, it’s years away with an intervening 2010 election.
He is one of the few telling us not to blink over defunding ObamaCare.
Why do they fear him?
Because Rafael Edward Cruz is Hispanic and could prove them wrong about Hispanics rejecting conservatives.
Because he is Christian and could unite religious conservatives again in that great voting bloc that propelled Ronald Reagan into the White House with resounding victories.
It is their intent to have us rip apart a great conservative leader long before any presidential campaign. Let’s not join in.
For you to aid them in their quest to take out one of our best candidates is truly Pharisaical and silly beyond words. As you can see by the majority of posts, we're not buying your, or their, efforts.......
See post #93
I think it’s because he’s Hispanic and could lead Hispanics into the conservative camp.
I think it’s because he’s Christian and could lead religious conservatives to again be that strong voting bloc that gave overwhelming victories to Ronald Reagan.
I'm concerned that people at FreeRepublic are attacking Ted Cruz.
See my #18 for an errata
Mark Levin commented last night on Hannity that Cruz is qualified. That's good enough for me.
Ted Cruz will be a credit to America whereever he ends up..
Im just sorry he wasnt born on US soil ..
The presidence for a POTUS with foreign born father has been done wirth Obama..
the Democrats could not say anything about Ted;s Dad..
but they will have a field day with his place of birth..
Look what happened with McCain..
His parents were both NBC American citizens and in Panama because his father was in the military sent there by our government..
and STILL the Democrats (led by Obama) insisted on running it through the Senate for a decision on eligibility..
Ted’s parents were not in Canada with the US military they were just private foreign citizens..
but if BOTH parents had been NBC and not just Ted’s mother there might have been an argument..
its sad but there it is...
and I shudder if there is a change to the Constitution..
an illegal alien could be president
or a member of the Moslem brotherhood..
how would you like a President Morsi ???
hes looking for a job with good pay and bennies ...
Ted Cruz was BORN a UNITED STATES CITIZEN, which is all that is required to be a natural born citizen and eligible to be President.
Ted Cruz is Constitutionally eligible to be President - according to the top authorities of the early United States who knew exactly what the Founding Fathers meant by "natural born citizen."
"It is not necessary that a man should be born in this country, to be 'a natural born citizen.' It is only requisite that he should be a citizen by birth, and that is the case with all the children of citizens who have ever resided in this country, though born in a foreign country."
- James Bayard, A Brief Exposition of the Constitution of the United States (1833)
This was part of Bayard's discussion of qualifications to be President and Presidential eligibility.
Bayard's exposition of the Constitution was read and approved by the Great Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Marshall, by the legendary Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story, and by the famous Chancellor James Kent, as well as other legal experts of the early United States.
Aside from that, Bayard should darn well have known what he was talking about. Not only was his father a US Senator and US Represenative, his grandfather (who was retired and lived not terribly far away when James was growing up) was Richard Bassett.
Bassett held the rank of United States Senator #1 in our First Congress. He was also a Revolutionary War veteran and one of the 39 Constitutional Convention Delegates who Signed the Constitution.
Oh. And not one single person ever said that James Bayard was wrong about his understanding of what "natural born citizen" meant.
