Bill Kristol appeared on Morning Joe Tuesday morning and distanced himself from comments he made on an ABC online interview Sunday about Sarah Palins path back into political power, saying he gave a dispassionate answer to a question about her political future, and was not actually encouraging her to run.
I was asked, Does Sarah Palin have a future? and I just tried to give an analytical answer, which is I dont think she does having resigned as governor, Kristol said. I said, Im not urging this. This is useful to think outside the box, not just accept the conventional wisdom If she wants to have a serious future in American politics, as opposed to giving speeches occasionally, causing a ruckus with Facebook posts, she should run for office. Running and winning takes away a lot of the baggage of the past.
Which isnt to say Kristol was against the idea of her running.
You dont think if she ran in the Republican primary in Alaska and beat a couple of good candidates and the incumbent senator, it would be interesting? Kristol asked. It would fun to have her in the Senate in January 2015. Good to have a Republican vote there, lively young senator.
I promise you that what she heard out of what you said was how to, said Nicolle Wallace, the John McCain aide who was assigned to Palin during the latters tumultuous 2008 campaign as the GOP running mate.
She really disappointed me when she quit the governorship, Kristol admitted. Until then she had been a popular governor. Fine, youre a defeated vice presidential candidate, you have couple bad interviews, you can survive that. Quitting the governorship in your first term? People dont understand that.

So the answer is to let them win? Got it.
Bill Kristol is such a pliable fool and so is Morning Jerk Scarborough.
Why would ANYONE with reputed “conservative” credentials appear on that liberal trash show anyway?
Who’s letting? They alreay won. Or haven’t you been paying attention?
We lost control of the language, LONG AGO....
kristol is a typical progressive beltway rump humper... he is not now nor has he ever been Conservative.

“In 1973, Kristol received an A.B. from Harvard, graduating magna cum laude in three years. In 1976, he worked for Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s successful U.S. Senate campaign, serving as deputy issues director during the Democratic primary. Kristol received a Ph.D. in government from Harvard in 1979.”
For God's sake, people on our side, STOP BUYING INTO LEFTIST MEMES and put an end to the lie about Sarah Palin being a 'quitter' once and for all!
Um, yes. Palin has a future.
Better questions to ask would be: Does the GOP have a future? Does America have a future? Now, those are some questions I have serious doubt over.
Ya think?
I bet he wishes he could take back his comments that the Arab Spring in Egypt was gonna be a good thing... I am gonna try to turn a new leaf here and hold back on what I really think of him lately...
She has a young, special needs, child. Resigning is the thing I admire most about her. That so many of us think it's a failure is sick.
This idiocracy doesn’t deserve Sarah Palin.
This guy also sucked in Shorty’s Revenge.
Kristol? That's to get money -- plus it's like a free vacation for the staff. National Review does it. The Nation does it. Unless you've got billions in your portfolio, if you run a political magazine, you probably try something like that, since those magazines really aren't designed to show profit and barely break even most of the time.
What Kristol said is what a lot of people have wondered about. If a "political future" means being a commentator and giving speeches, Sarah Palin has a political future. If it means running for president, she's probably going to have to get herself elected to the Senate and serve there before that happens. It's not clear that she wants a "political future" of that sort, but does anybody really think higher office is going to fall into her lap or be given to her by acclamation?
As much as I’d love to see Sarah as President, I don’t think she hurt herself by not running in 2012. If she had and lost, then she would be forever known as former presidential candidate. As much as I disliked our candidate, and held my nose to vote for him - I think she saw the handwriting on the wall and what she was up against. She would have lost too because of all the fraud.
Seems to me zero quit his Senate seat too, and had much less experience than Sarah, so why does Billy have his panties in a wad?
She could’ve seen the writing earlier and endorse someone that is my only beef. I’m not going to wait for her to make up her mind and hoping for something that isn’t going to happen. I agree the quitting meme is really shallow. These guys would never use that against one of their favored candidates. Kristol hasn’t been a serious commentator in sometime.
Especially when idiots like Bill Kristol, who know perfectly well why Palin left her post, refuse to tell them.
The Weekly Standard is still being published? Who knew?
I disagree.
Someday, there will be statues of Palin, and people will say “Bill who?”
The Mediaite writeup is unduly negative—watch the whole clip. Bill actually repeated and stood by his comments, despite having Joe and Mika and Nicole Wallace all egging him to reneg.
Now, I like Sarah -- I'd vote for her in a heartbeat. But most people, including a substantial number of Republican,s don't. It's not fair; it's not sensible; it's not logical.
But it's the case. Spare us, please, the de rigueur smearing of Kristol for pointing out the obvious.
