Guess What Al Jazeera America Is Asking Its Viewers to Do Ahead of Its Launch

Al Jazeera America begins broadcasting Tuesday but will only be available in about 50 million homes. A link on the network’s website allows users to search whether the channel is available in their neighborhood, and provides a form letter for potential customers to request it from their TV providers.

The article linked by South40 in post #9 of this thread indicated that Al Jazeera America was going to attempt to put an “American” face on their programming to make it more palatable to U.S. audiences. The article stated that one of the foreign Al Jazeera principals was upset that it would be too watered down.

So the broadcast content may not, at least initially, have the look and feel of the usual Al Jazeera fare.

So will Al Jazeera be on Directv in the Current spot? If they won’t pick up Glenn Beck and do pick this up, I’m finished after 15 years.

I watch it when I am overseas. I haven’t really noticed any pro-Muslim propaganda, which surprises me. In fact, I find it hard to tell the difference between it and BBC. Announcers sound the same, same kind of format, same kind of guests(lots of US spokesmen appear).

I have it on my satellite, but do not watch it very often.
What I do see is pretty classy, and not what many FReepers would expect.
I might add that Qatar Airlines is my airline between Europe and the Philippines. It is one of seven airlines with a five star rating. What is really sad is that no American carrier has more then three stars.
I know it is easy to think of the middle east as being nothing but sand monkeys and rag heads, but they do know how to be classy, as needed.

What about the possibility that Imam Obama and the Feds getting involved with a complaint from Muslim pressure groups that dropping Al Jazeera will be anti-Muslim discrimination? I can see this anti-American Administration trying to make sure that the Muslim media flourishes to expand the Ummah.

The difference is that they are “our” alphabet networks. Al Jazeera is alien and explicitly Muslim controlled.

It could be refreshing to have a news organization that actually does news. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to go overboard to be non-biased.

There’s an old youtube spoof on Al-Jazeera depicting announcers in turbans or hijabs ending every sentence of newscopy with “Death to America!”

I’m sure the real thing is more subtle than that.

Perhaps they are just concerned with timing. Get out the muslim vote in 2014. Timing is everything in politics.
