Lee Daniels, director of "Lee Daniels' The Butler," can't seem to keep his charges of racism straight. I always thought that a sure sign of racism was how much rural whites love to see black people "perform." But now Daniels is claiming that he had to stock his latest film with white actors out of the fear that, unless he did, rural whites would not want to see a film starring only black people:
The new movie The Butler has a unique political feature: Portrayals of five U.S. presidents. (Robin Williams plays Dwight Eisenhower, James Marsden portrays John F. Kennedy, John Cusack plays Richard Nixon, Liev Schreiber as Lyndon B. Johnson and Alan Rickman plays Ronald Reagan).
Director Lee Daniels says that many big stars was, in part, a way to balance the films lineup of actors.
"I want people from Oklahoma, I wanted people from Nebraska, I wanted people from Idaho who wouldnt be so excited about going to see an African-American film with these African-American actors, people that understood some of these other folks, white folks that were celebrities. The films primary actors are Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Terrence Howard and David Oyelowo.
This, of course, is nothing more than Daniels hurling an ignorant and bigoted smear against rural whites (a club of which I am a proud to be a member). It is also anti-science. No white actors have ever been necessary to turn Will Smith, Halle Berry, or Denzel Washington films into mega-hits. And Oprah Winfrey, one of the stars of the "The Butler," isn't a billionaire today because large swaths of white America would have nothing to do with her.....

Sounds like another zombie movie to me.
No way I'll see this backward cracker stereotype-fest!
I wanna see the movie about Obama’s white butler.
I thought at first this might be a movie worth seeing, but if this is going to be another white guilt festival, forget it. I’ve had enough of being told that the problems in the black community today are my fault.
Mr. Daniels, ... you’re an idiot.
Hanoi Jane’s in it. That’s enough reason for me to avoid this “opus”.
“I thought at first this might be a movie worth seeing, but if this is going to be another white guilt festival, forget it. Ive had enough of being told that the problems in the black community today are my fault.”
With the exception of films based on books written before the downward spiral (and occasionally these are “cleaned up” by the PC police), no film worth seeing would even be allowed to be screened today. The Bolshevik control of the media is complete.
This is a movie for a black audience; looking at the line-up, I know I’m not part of the target audience. My white children aren’t, either; they live in a world where rather than see downtrodden blacks they watch them get everything for free.
You got that right. It’s another ‘whitey is at fault!” film. What a load of sh*t. I’d rather watch my dog poop an obama out of his ass.
That will help get people to the theater.
heh
bwahahahahaha!
I’m not sure why nobody is mentioning the economy when they look at some of these movies bombing recently; I’m not in the target demographic anyway (over 40, married with kids), but the younger single people I know are having a tough time financially and would wait a few months to see it for a fraction of the cost.
Of course, we couldn’t admit that the movies are feeling the same crunch as restaurants and other beneficiaries of discretionary spending during our “fundamental transformation”...
I’m confused.
Do you want people to watch your film because blacks are curiousities or because of the quality of their work?
You stocked your film with white people so black actors would stand a chance? What kind of atavistic, title 7 reasoning is informed by such immoral thinking?
I go see Denzeln Washington movies because I like his acting. Even saw that crappy train wreck movie.
I’d have Wesley Snipe movies but, he’s been a little boxed in lately.
Still, there are Cuba Gooding movies. Can’t think of my favorite but, the one about the navy diver and snow dogs. I think I’ve seen just about everything he’s been and became a fan after Boys in the Hood. I was even touched by “Radio”.
I was going to see this movie but, since you are so obliged to inject racism into your PR campaign then you shouldn’t be surprised how quickly it goes to DVD and BET?
You have basically made a “for blacks” movie with that stupid commentary and I won’t watch it for that reason alone.
I’m tired of hearing about black this and black that. Hell, I’m tired of Oprah faking racism far away from a country where a poor clerk won’t be given much voice to deny the accusation.
She just gets to accuse, malign, pass judgement and sentence while never giving the accused a fair shake at defending themselves.
I am a white woman living in rural Missouri, and when I saw Forest whittaker, Cuba Holding Jr, and Denzel in a movie, I thought I would enjoy it. However, it is the white actors (Williams and Ronda) that are going to make me pass on this film.
Well thank you Lee Daniels for helping me make the proper decision on where to spend my movie dollars. You won’t have to worry about me being in a theater to see your movie, me being a Whitey and all.
Curiously, the facebook page for the film states that Ronald Reagan’s religion was Disciples of Chris. Yes, that’s right. Chris. And to set the record straight, President Reagan was a Presbyterian. His mother was a member of the Disciples of Christ.

Do you think they were going to act in a movie that didn’t take dozens of cheap shots at whites? I don’t care about these movies being made because I’m past pretending that there is any common ground between various groups in this country. Hispanics watch “Machete”, blacks watch “The Butler”, and whites watch “The Hobbit”...
i don’t like to see any movies made by liberal directors. makes no diff who’s in the film.
Cuba : Rat Race. The Lucys, the cow, Cuba’s reactions . . . funny stuff
