LEE COUNTY, FL -
The local branch of the NAACP is asking the Justice Department to investigate Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott. The request comes after a controversial letter sent by the sheriff calls out the civil rights group for not doing enough to stop black-on-black crime.
In the letter, the Sheriff uses the "N" word, prompting the organization's president James Muwakkil to call the Sheriff a racist. He later retracted the comment.
Now voicemail messages Muwakkil left for the Sheriff contradicting the NAACP's agenda have been released.
Sheriff Scott responded to the inquiry by saying he thinks "federal involvement is laughable."
The response from the local NAACP executive board is more subdued.
"The federal intervention is something that's new to us as VP's, the president did let us know that he was contacting national," said executive board member Nancy Kelley Simms.
Monday, Sheriff Scott released two voice messages Muwakkil sent him in late July after the NAACP board voted unanimously for Muwakkil to not meet with Sheriff Scott.
"I do agree with you on some of the points you made regarding the black on black crime and especially hip hop community using the n-word all the time and none of it, and no black leadership is speaking against it," Muwakkil said in the message.
The messages -- which board members heard for the first time today -- left members wondering how the federal government can interject now that their president is on record agreeing with the sheriff.
"If were going to be united than we need to get on the same page," Simms said.
Some board members are still hesitant that federal action is needed.
"I'm not sure about that at this point," Simms said.
Federal intervention or not, the local NAACP says they still have no intention of meeting with the Sheriff.
12% responsible for 99.9% of the problems in the USA.
Isn't that a stool softener ?
Hey you fascist Muwakkil... just remember how fascism has ended in any society it has been tried throughout the world? Better brush up on some history buddy....
Anywhere else and you would call it what it really is :
They should go sit in the corner , like any other 6 year old ..
My understanding is that in private conversations Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton also voice the same concerns as Muwakkil but once the cameras go on the extortion begins.
There is another 1% that causes a lot of disproportional
problems to. I find that “queer”
It would be useful to see the letter in question to make sure the n-word reference is not being used out of context. Also, would all of this be an issue if Lee wasn’t a Republican? I wonder...
King County Wa. was named for the first VP; William King. But they changed it to be more PC to "King" as in MLK.
Maybe they will be forced to do similar: "Spike Lee" County?
Instead of the NAACP blaming everyone else on the planet for the plight of blacks, perhaps they need to look at their own constituents for the causes of their problems and ask them to clean up their act first. Having done that, the NAACP can then properly address those problems that persist after their own internal cleanup is done.
Obviously, nothing is being done.
PS: I think I remember seeing the same sticker in Atlanta, too.
If I’m correctly reading between the lines of the NAACP guy’s response, the Sheriff would have said something about low-class rappers yelling N,N,N all the time, which has a corrosive effect in many ways. I’d bet that’s his shocking, shocking! “use of the N-word”.
“It would be useful to see the letter in question”
Here it is: http://ftpcontent.worldnow.com/wbbh/documents/NAACPLETTER.pdf
There is no “there” there! Just “black leaders” throwing a hissy fit while ignoring the truth of their predicament.
Don’t bet the ranch on it. Too much money and publicity to be made, in ***racism***, pure and simple.
A lot more than 12% of the country are liberals.
Screw NAACP and black jackass Holder. Getting tired of blacks.
I read it....no bs pc weak kneed letter...the sherriff declines to give him a donation and refuses to speak at their meeting...
He uses the N - word within context and not in any shape or form racist...
