Tensions are rising in Japan over radioactive water leaking into the Pacific Ocean from Japan's crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, a breach that has defied the plant operator's effort to gain control.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday called the matter an urgent issue and ordered the government to step in and help in the clean-up, following an admission by Tokyo Electric Power Company that water is seeping past an underground barrier it attempted to create in the soil. The head of a Nuclear Regulatory Authority task force told Reuters the situation was an "emergency."

so is it safe to buy and eat canned tuna and salmon now?....I’ve got a supply, most of it from just before the tsunami in Japan, but I’ve been buying newer stuff lately....
Heck, I don’t know.. I was just thinking where I could get a very sensitive Geiger counter for a good price.
I have a canned stash, too. Most all before the troubles, but it will go out of date soon...
...nature?...
Correct. Anytime I see natgeo quoted as being the source, I immediately know without a doubt that it must be true. NOT! While they may have some pretty nice photos, they’re no better than the “earth island” and green peace clowns. I guess I’ll just have to keep trusting in king hussein. LOL!
Yes, but this reactor accident is dumping a lot more into the ocean. It's just diluted by water.
Read the article: it compares the amount of radioactive cesium released by the bomb over Hiroshima to the amount initially released immediately after the earthquake.
That's a big issue here in the South with lake caught fish. They recommend pregnant women to eat no more than about once per month, IIRC.
I don’t see crappies on this list.
You can build your own using an arduino board and about $150 in a detector and other parts that is equal to those costing upwards to $800, that will detect Gamma, Beta, and even Alpha rays/particles.
White Perch
Turn on the Geiger counter and you will needlessly scare yourself. You will discover everything is radioactive. Radon is seeping from the ground. Your milk has measurable amounts of radioactive calcium. Even the bones if your sleeping partner are radioactive.
Russian open dumping in the Arctic
Last I heard plant and animal life were flourishing around Chernobyl.
We also have stocked striper bass and walleye in our lake, plus high bred “wiper.”
But nothing beats a mess of crappy fillets, some potato salad and cold adult beverages of your choice.
Or even worse: Phantom from 10,000 Leagues
Agree, but one might prove a critical item to have in case of serious contamination from whatever (my biggest concern - use of unconventional weapons).
Your bottle of Evian water is allowed to have 300 becquerels. That is every second, 300 neutrons decay. Yes the pool water at Fukishima exceeds this rate but no one is expected to drink it right out of the pool. It flows into the ocean where it is diluted. How many bottles of Evian would it take to fill the Pacific Ocean? By the way Fukushima is allowed to emit 22 trillion becquerels a year before exceeding safe levels. Typical green alarmism.
It's even more interesting to see it in a graphic form.
This takes a while to watch and is slow to really get POPPING, but after you watch it, you won't have the same 'view' of these isolated and rare events like Fukishima any more.
Thanks
