Coal industry lobbyists and politicians have been urging the Obama administration to ease up on its regulatory agenda and craft carbon dioxide emission rules that would allow the coal industry to survive.
All the while, reports indicate that hundreds of coal plants are slated to be shut down in the coming years.
The unveiling of President Obamas plan to cut carbon dioxide emissions from coal-fired power plants earlier this summer stoked the fears of coal supporters who have already been hit hard by stricter environmental regulations.
However, the industry is not going down without a fight.
Coal lobbyists met with White House officials at the end of July, the Hill newspaper reports, to ask the administration to consider a plan that would allow new coal plants to be built.
Earlier this year the Obama administration put forward rules that would have effectively banned building new coal plants, unless they utilized carbon capture technology.
In Kentucky, coal is not just an energy source, its a way of life, reads a letter from 50 Kentucky Republican and Democratic state legislators, urging Obama to reconsider new rules for carbon emissions limits. In Kentucky alone, the loss would measure in the billions of dollars both from declines in the industry and what are predicted to be steep increases in energy costs.

your neighbors put him in office by supporting their Unions, whether they meant to or not. The Unions ARE the problem. you pay dues, they give them to Dems and support Obama. Doesn’t matter if you hate Obama , your union loves him. And you my friend support your union...right?
thank you, I thought I was pretty much alone on this.
I recall WV voted Blue.
I wonder how many are disgusted enough with being treated like a serf to do anything about it.
Unlike Hawaii, WV hasn’t voted a RAT for president since 1996. Matter of fact, in 2012 WV was one of only three states in which not a single county voted for Zer0.
Note to idiot from FL
Read post #86
Not a single county in West Virginia went for O... I think it was the same in Eastern PA. No doubt, they are still unionistas, so keep that in mind. I found it odd that w working men ll vote for dems but that is what their bosses order them to do. They broke ranks in the last election cycle, unlikely they ever will again. Of course, they will keep gun grabber Manchin for his name.
Your recall is 100% wrong.
——I hope they close them all. Most of these soon to be jobless idiots belonged to Unions and voted for the Obama man.-——
Since you think that is a good idea.... Where do I send you my bill for my additional cost of my electric bill..... I hope you are well off....cause it’s going to be a big one....
Beg............think of this word when you vote in 2014
The same place he got the authority to screw the secured bondholders of GM and Chrysler. Then he decided which dealers to close.
This all started in the earliest days of his first administration. The rule of law went out the window and the rule of Obama replaced it. He continues to cross all the red lines of constitutional law with impunity. There is no one to stop him, seemingly.
PA and WVa voted for him, too. The media ignored his statement about destroying the coal industry. All of us are going to pay a very, very high price for the stupidity.
“The most insidious power the media has, is the power to ignore.”
The media, however, will NEVER acknowledge that the first black president is prejudiced against conservatives, whites, and people living in rural areas. Not only that, he is willing to use the full weight of the federal government to punish these "enemies".
You won't recognize your country when this guy is done.
Flip side of the same coin.
The GOP is the lib-dems’ “away jersey”.
I’m wrong; WVa voted against him. PA voted for him.
He promised to close coal mines back in 08 yet the coal miners union’s homepage was an endorsement for him. Sorry, they voted to lose their jobs so deal with it.
How about simply following the constitution in terms of the manner of electing presidents? You vote for electors, not media-promoted candidates.
shouldn’t have voted for him then...
