The identity of a priest, who appeared at an accident scene, is a mystery.
Illinois rescue crews spent the first 45 minutes after the accident trying to get a 19-year-year old girl out of a car.
They were running out of options when a priest came out of nowhere, even though the road was blocked for miles, WEWS-TV reported.
"I went back and talked to the priest and told him we were worried she would think we'd given up hope. He said 'I just want to anoint her' and so we just let him come up to the scene," New London Fire Chief Richard Adair said.
"He came up and approached the patient, and offered a prayer. It was a Catholic priest who had anointing oil with him. A sense of calmness came over her, and it did us as well. I can't be for certain how it was said, but myself and another firefighter that was beside me, we very plainly heard that we should remain calm, that our tools would now work and that we would get her out of that vehicle."
Moments later, rescuers were able to free the girl. The fire department took 80 photos of the scene, but none included a picture of the priest.
The highway had been blocked during the hour and a half rescue, leaving no bystanders and no parked cars nearby. The local Diocese is also unable to identify who the priest was.
Wouldn't it be a wonderful world, if this story would get the legs that the Trayvon Martin story has gotten?
In my mind, this single incident is worth repeating over and over until its message of love and compassion etched in my Christ-adoring soul.
Why are you sure this is Christian? I have no idea what happened here so I won’t even speculate, but in all things we must be discerning. Our fallen minds fool us. The Bible warns us repeatedly not to trust our own understanding. We simply cannot trust what we think we see. We must judge all things, ideas, doctrines according to the Word, the only sure truth. The Bible tells us Satan disguises himself and masquerades as an angel of light. Abject evil won’t fool many people but untold billions will follow an angel of light to their eternal doom.
13For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds. (2 Corinthians 11:13-15)
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)
“There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Proverbs 16:25)
I believe God will send this kind of help when we need him.
But just to say it, I've pulled people out of car wrecks on a couple of occasions. One time was a woman who had flipped her car near me when I was jogging (opposite side of the road.)
She was pinned upside down with the seatbelt still fastened and in shock. I broke the window and pulled her out. Scattered all over the roof (on the ground now) were a bunch of beers that had opened from the impact and were now spurting beer all over the car. She was covered with beer.
Anyway, I got her out of the car and we both smelled like a bar at 1AM in the morning. I sat her down and other people started to gather around. I honestly don't know if she had been drinking but with others to see to her well being I figured I'd played out my obligation to my sisters and brothers and kept jogging.
I didn't want any part of the incident beyond seeing her safely out of the vehicle.
“So how come its always catholic in these miracles, sightings of a virgin Mary, exorcisms?”
Well, first of all, that just isn’t true. The Coptic Christians of Egypt, for instance - who are not Catholics - have visions of Mary just about every year. Literally, every year at the same time of year. And plenty of other Churches and even sects experience miracles. The Holy Spirit works wherever and on whomever He chooses.
“Strange it only happens to a group that even its leadership states is filled with pedophiles and financially corrupt. Doesnt make sense.”
Actually it makes perfect sense. Christ’s Church is always holy because He founded it and His grace and the power of the Holy Spirit guide and protect it. The fact that it is chock full of serious sinners only means Christ Church is based on Him and not man for otherwise it would have collapsed many centuries ago.
“Could it be all made up just to fill the pews?”
Nope. 1) That doesn’t really work. 2) When you have a Jewish doctor (in this case here: http://abcnews.go.com/2020/miracle-benedicta-mccarthy-survived-tylenol-overdose-prayer-sister/story?id=10251732) you have to ask yourself how it could be the Catholic Church making things up to fill pews?
Ever see the before and after x-rays of Vittorio Michelli? His hip was eaten away by cancer. After traveling to Lourdes, his hip grew back. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lourdes_Medical_Bureau#Vittorio_Micheli
But here is one of my favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp9TgyjlnS0 It’s only 97 seconds long.
This person wasn’t masquerading as an angel of light.
Believe as you will.
Maybe because rank and file Catholics have remained true to their faith and Catholic theology despite the scandals.
We Christians do. We call it "Faith".
?
I have faith in Christ, not in the experiences and claims of others. This is an interesting tale, but that’s all it is. Salvation is in Him alone, not in roadside sightings and resurrections.
The church was founded by Christ. The Catholic religion is just a spinoff from that, that occurred about 300 years later.
I found this from an eyewitness.
Wanda Burr-White, who was at the crash site, remembers the priest well.
“He was dark complected,” she said. “He had an accent, but I’m not sure what nationality. He was probably 5 feet 6 inches maybe. He was not heavy set, but he probably weighed close to 200 pounds. He had dark hair.”
Burr-White and her husband held Katie’s head while rescue workers were trying to extricate her from the car.
Burr-White’s husband added that the priest was wearing black-rimmed glasses and resembled actor Walter Matthau.
KHQA received a composite sketch from Randall Sands with IQ Biometrix that represents what witnesses saw and later described.
Ralls County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Adair was the first responder on the scene of the accident.
He said the above composite does not resemble the priest he saw.
Adair described the priest as being between 60 to 65 years of age, 5’6”, olive skin and had a thick accent.
Adair said the priest was dressed in a traditional black shirt and pants, white collar with a silver, older looking cross around his neck.

Here’s the clue “resembled actor Walter Matthau.”
“The church was founded by Christ.”
Correct. On Peter.
“The Catholic religion is just a spinoff from that, that occurred about 300 years later.”
No. There are ignorant people who believe that, of course, but they have little knowledge of scripture or history and almost no common sense.
It has nothing to do with what I believe. The person who showed up at the accident scene was not masquerading as an angel of light. That is simply indisputable.
That’s my take it on. Why try to explain it? It happened...for all of those who say He doesn’t show his face anymore in the world, well, here you go!
How so you think an angel of light would appear? How would you know? 2 Corinthians 11 deals with deadly deception in the religious realm. There is no area of life where discernment is more important than in the arena of religion because most religion is false religion.
Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness (vv. 1415a).
- 2 Corinthians 11:1415
“How so you think an angel of light would appear?”
What matters is that you said he could be masquerading as an angel of light. Whoever this was he was not masquerading as any kind of angel. He appeared as a priest and acted as one. In other words, you were wrong. Deal with it.
“How would you know?”
The facts are clear. What you wrote is also clear. What you wrote does not agree with the facts. That’s how I know.
“2 Corinthians 11 deals with deadly deception in the religious realm. There is no area of life where discernment is more important than in the arena of religion because most religion is false religion.”
I agree. And to be discerning you have to be able to think. If someone is not appearing as an angel, then he can’t be masquerading as an angel. What part of that do you not understand?
