The identity of a priest, who appeared at an accident scene, is a mystery.
Illinois rescue crews spent the first 45 minutes after the accident trying to get a 19-year-year old girl out of a car.
They were running out of options when a priest came out of nowhere, even though the road was blocked for miles, WEWS-TV reported.
"I went back and talked to the priest and told him we were worried she would think we'd given up hope. He said 'I just want to anoint her' and so we just let him come up to the scene," New London Fire Chief Richard Adair said.
"He came up and approached the patient, and offered a prayer. It was a Catholic priest who had anointing oil with him. A sense of calmness came over her, and it did us as well. I can't be for certain how it was said, but myself and another firefighter that was beside me, we very plainly heard that we should remain calm, that our tools would now work and that we would get her out of that vehicle."
Moments later, rescuers were able to free the girl. The fire department took 80 photos of the scene, but none included a picture of the priest.
The highway had been blocked during the hour and a half rescue, leaving no bystanders and no parked cars nearby. The local Diocese is also unable to identify who the priest was.

Miracles and Angels do exits.... twenty years ago my friends daughter had a near drowning in their backyard pool. Helicopter transport to hospital followed by coma/ventilator. About 2 or 3 days into the coma a “black priest” presented to the ICU and told the family and nurses that he was from the Cathedral and would like to annoint the child. He did so, said the prayers and left.
That afternoon, the child regained consciousness and went on to recover.
The family asked the nurses for the name of the priest because they wanted to thank him. The nurses said they did not know as they had never seen him before. The family then called the Cathedral and were informed “we don’t have a black priest - we never have!”
Yes, the angel of the Lord made a visit that day.
Hint: how to identify the ‘miracle priest’ from that accident scene in Missouri
By Phil Lawler
By now youve surely heard about the mystery priest who inexplicably appeared at the scene of an accident in Missouri, prayed with the victim and emergency workers, made things come out right, and then disappeared. (If somehow youve missed the story, here is just one among thousands of media accounts.) Who was that priest? No one recognized him; he wasnt from the area. He showed up unannounced, although police had blocked off access to the road. In dozens of photos of the accident, his face is never seen. Emergency workers, and the young woman whose life was saved, want to meet this priest, just to thank him. But he hasnt come forward.
There may be a very natural explanation for all this. But as the days pass and the mystery deepens, the people who say it was a miracle sound more and more convincing.
Who was that priest? I dont know. But I do have a suggestion on how he might be identified:
Start showing the witnesses photos of priests with a reputation for holiness.
Include photos of priests who are no longer alive.
Prepare for a shock.

I know it's been posted before, but I'm not tired of re-reading it yet..And I bet I've read this story about seven times or more here on FR posted by various posters, and from various media sources.
Also posted yesterday, is an update on this story including photos of the wreck and the injuries sustained.
Missouri Miracle? Mystery Priest Appears, Disappears
And, in yet another article from USA Today, it is noted that:
Even odder, the black-garbed priest does not appear in any of the nearly 70 photos of the scene of the accident in which a 19-year-old girl almost died. No one knows the priest and he vanished without a word, said Raymond Reed, fire chief of New London, Mo.
This is truly a wonderful story ... thank you, BCW, for posting it .. yet again. It is timeless.
I thought I was the only one :)
So how come its always catholic in these miracles, sightings of a virgin Mary, exorcisms? Strange it only happens to a group that even its leadership states is filled with pedophiles and financially corrupt. Doesn’t make sense. Could it be all made up just to fill the pews?
There’s biblical precedent for this, e.g. Philip
Can it, God uses whatever means is available... and I am one of those rascally evangelicals so I have no particular axe to grind here
Comments are fun to watch...everybody trying to explain it. And if they cannot, then they attack it. It happened...period. No comment on cause or functionality is needed. I just smile and walk away...it happened, I don’t need to tell people “why.” “Why” is not important...that it happened is what is important.
offering..... to fill collection plates
I used the search function and the title didn’t pop up - and yes - I missed it yesterday - but it’s a good read in the early morning w/ a cup of coffee...nice to see things this small get the attention that it did — means that God has not abandoned us - not even in the smallest of circumstances...
WOW! - great story...I think the angels of God are working over time with the state of Our Union...God bless his angels!
The Church was founded by Peter - he was the rock - and went forth as instructed by Christ — why wouldn’t the dark one not attempt to bring in his minions - corrupt The Rock - bring shame and vile into the very Earthly Symbol that connects man to his Savior?
Ask yourself if there’s not one institution that was founded for good - that eventually ended up being infiltrated by evil!
All of this has been and is currently being discussed in Rome - the New Pope was elected for a reason - and these reasons encompass exactly what you are charging The Church for - not the individuals that committed the act and the ones that allowed such acts to continue - a due cleaning is at hand...
The fallen angles still maintain their powers - their knowledge - and their corruption... see this book for a start: http://www.amazon.com/An-Exorcist-Tells-His-Story/dp/0898707102
This is profoundly more than catholic...it is Christian.....
“The Church was founded by Peter”
No, it was founded by Christ ON Peter the Rock. Peter did not establish the Church. If he did, it would be like any Protestant sect today.
Yeah! And what could possibly be gained from that!
No, I don't think this story is a marketing tactic, but I am amazed at how just the thought of using an uplifting story to instill hope and direction is so disgusting to some people.
Let's see more stories about child molesters! Right?
Well said!
