McCain: I endorse Mike Enzi over Liz Cheney

Yet another reason to find the Enzi/Cheney race fascinating. Tough call here for Maverick. Does he strike a blow for incumbency by backing his pal Mike, even though it means siding with “wacko bird” nemesis, Rand Paul? Or does he strike a blow for interventionism by endorsing the tea-party favorite Cheney? Here’s the answer, via the Corner. McCain endorsing anyone named “Cheney” at this point was a long shot, incumbent opponent or no. He’s been at odds with Dick sporadically for at least 10 years, dating back to the Bush tax cuts, then to the debate over enhanced interrogation, and then to Cheney’s criticism of him after leaving office for his VP pick and his bizarre political strategy during the 2008 financial crisis. (Cheney wasn’t above publicly knocking McCain in the heat of the 2008 presidential campaign either.) Liz Cheney actually took McCain’s side last year after her father called Palin’s VP selection a mistake, a shrewd move for an aspiring Senate candidate planning to run as a tea partier in a red state. That plus super-hawkishness, and still — Maverick’s unambiguously for Enzi here.

Even so, is she better off having McCain on the other side? Maverick might be seen as a respected elder statesman by Wyoming Republicans who don’t follow politics closely even though the national base rants about him daily.

Good reason for anyone to back Cheney right here.

Well, it’s the closest explanation I’ve seen yet to him endorsing his opponent.

Arthurus, your childish attempt to take me to task for using their in stead of her, simply moves the topic off something you couldn’t on it’s own merits.

Are you really that obtuse? No.

Grow up.

That’s my take too.

With McCain granted, you don’t know exactly what he’s up to, but there’s only a rational explanation or two available, and what I mentioned as one seems the most likely to me.

Arthurus, neither does rudeness. I made a mistake that a gentleman would have overlooked.

I gave you credit for being able to understand what I intended to say. Perhaps that was a mistake.

I wasn’t an English major, and there are going to be plenty of times when I’ll make a mistake.

It’s not going to be productive for either of us, if you simply follow me around playing dumb.

McCain just ensured that Liz can win. He has no idea how much he is disliked. Not sure Liz is the one to back but it sure makes her look good to me if McCain et al (RINOS) are trying to shut her down. Just sayin.... Hopfully there is a true conservative out there to challenge her and Enzi.

Yup. John McMaverick is a spiteful man who seemingly relishes his political life as an antagonist, anti-hero (and "martyr" according to the MSM.)

WHY in heaven's name would this former Presidential nominee (R) travel all the way to Syria in order to project 0bama's solidarity with rebel Muslim murderers and thugs? The guy has always been a Trojan Horse traitor.

I agree.

John McCain has always been a ‘me first’ person.

From the time he was a bully on the school-yard playground until today, he has NEVER been a team player. I don’t believe he changed his spots in the military either. I’ll bet we don’t know the half if it.

This guy would sell us out for twenty pieces of silver. Do I hear five...

This is nothing but theater.

Of course McMaverick supports Lizzy but this is a head-fake designed to give conservatives the impression that all the big-name Statists don't support one another. I don't buy this charade for a single moment, and hopefully neither will the voters in Wyoming.

Hear ya, D1.

NEVER been a team player (unless that "team" is the OTHER team.)

LOL...or do I hear a pat on the fanny from Crissy Matthews? (isn't he the one who first coined, "Maverick"?

I should get a percent of the action for setting you up like that.  Good one.

He could be.  For some reason I never bothered to remember.  Chris is problematic too.  These folks have no idea how badly their actions impact this nation.  Or if they do, they sure must be proud.

My point is disdain for Mccain not for Cheney, there is alot to not like about Liz Cheney, there is alot to not like about Mike Enzi, he like many others have blown an opportunity to make a difference. For years I thought Dick Cheney was what the country needed, he was my first choice for President in 1988 but he strayed from the path. Offhand I can only think of one Senator and a few Congressmen I agree with, unfortunatly none of them are from my state. I don’t send money to the Republican Senate comittee anymore but directly to candidates, I doubt this is a race I’ll contribute to.

Matthews is one odd bird whose mind I can't get into. Do they knoweth what they do? We know one thing -- Matthews is a White Guilter who personally took it upon himself to apologize for racism on behalf of all “white people.”

As to McCain's "Maverick" moniker and how it began, we must go back to 1983 when he was a pacifist and opposed the Gipper on his decision to deploy troops in Lebanon. A far cry from suggesting we remain in Iraq "for the next 50 years." If you or anyone else is interested:

At the end of the day, that's pretty much my take on it too.  I would go Enzi now.  I could change my mind about Cheney in time, but it would take some serious convincing.

For years I thought Dick Cheney was what the country needed, he was my first choice for President in 1988 but he strayed from the path.

Yes, I think you're right.  It's sad to see too.

Offhand I can only think of one Senator and a few Congressmen I agree with, unfortunatly none of them are from my state.

My Senators and many of the Congressmen from my state are gross, so I know where you are coming from there.

I don’t send money to the Republican Senate comittee anymore but directly to candidates, I doubt this is a race I’ll contribute to.

The Republican party doesn't deserve our support.  It has chosen to represent a democraphic already served better by a concern more dedicated to what this demographic wants.

The other democraphic is now having to form a new group that will support it's interests.

I don't think there has been another party in our nation's history that's done a better job of abandoning it's base, and utterly destroying itself from the top.

Imagine you're a fast food place.  You've been in business for 150 years.  You've got a burger that everyone likes.  It's what has kept your enterprise in business for the last 50 years.  Five years ago you decided to make only half as many of them, and you have just announced you're going to cut that 50% in half, so that only 25% of the number of burgers you used to sell will be available from now on.  You sold out at 100%.  Now you've chosen to make only 25% of that.

Angry customers tell you they want more of this burger.  You tell them that no, you're going to increase making a knock-off burger that's not nearly as good as the burger one of your competitors is selling.  People hate it.  They're not buying it.

You run advertising campaign pushing the knock-off burger.  In media interviews, you say that people who like and want more of your old burger are kooks and terrorists.

You continue to make more of the knock-off burgers and each evening you throw hundreds of them out at each location.  Across the nation your sales are tanking.  The competitor is selling way more burgers than it used to.  It's enterprise is thriving!

Now a lot of the people who used to purchase your old burger, have chosen to go without eating burgers anymore.  You actually take pride in that.

This is the Republican party.

It is very disconcerting to me that people are ready to jump on the Cheney bandwagon after we are on the vege of losing our country over amnesty. What is her position on this? And why the hell is she running ? I say she is a stealth amnesty vote in the making, and I challenge anyone to impeach my logic on this.

As for McCain, who actively, and openly campaigns for their opponent, while running for POTUS?

A MAN WHO WANTS TO REMAIN A SENATOR.
