We always fly Southwest when possible. They had a very good reputation among the military pilots We agree wholeheartedly. We fly LUV (Soutwest) whenever we can.
We were returning to Albuquerque on American one time several years ago and the front landing gear dropped into a pot hole while we taxing to the gate. Whooops. We had to wait for one of the tractors come out to get us as the plane could not push us out of the hole. Funny to talk about it now.
I can imagine the feelings of the passengers if the whole front end drops down as it did at LGA.

Taking off doesn’t stress landing gear like landing does. From the photo, it looks like they were taxiing left when the gear broke off. Notice how the craft is leaning right. It COULD be a right-lug-nut problem. But it looks more like the total front gear was replaced and not tightened up enough.

I can’t be the only one wondering how many meteorite worshippers comprise our nation’s aircraft mechanics and maintenance personnel?

You’re not. That was my first thought: sabotage. Then Occam led me to incompetence.

The weight on the nose remains during T/O until around 100kts or so when they rotate - when landing, the nose gear is the last to touch down (or supposed to). Can’t tell from the pictures if the plane is on the rwy or taxiway.

Not that SW is incompetent: they’re the best example of an Airline ever. Nothing but love here.

True, but the gear is in ‘straight’ position on TO and landing. It looks like the fail was with the left taxi turn, when the gear got all the weight on its right side, and it crumpled.

Okay - can’t tell from the picture if it was in a turn. Looks like it was going straight. Did they say it was turning?
